Chapter 248
Joseph didn’t believe a word Cora said. Unfortunately, he had no evidence to refute her. Even if he did, she wouldn’t admit it.
A woman who could deny the results of a DNA test report was beyond reason. At this point, short of completely losing control and doing something irreversible, he saw no way to force the truth out of her.
After all, she was the richest person in Jenton. She controlled enormous resources. He couldn’t compare to her In this world, weakness and being powerless were sins.
Neither of them spoke again. Before long, they both fell asleep. When Joseph woke up, he noticed that they had ended up wrapped in each other’s arms again sometime during the night. He couldn’t help but think about how incredible his life would have been if only Cora hadn’t cheated on him.
At the thought of Cora hiding her affairs, Joseph felt angry. He vented his frustration on her again.
“Hey, I have an important meeting this morning. I don’t have any energy left now,” said Cora, rolling her eyes at Joseph. She told him to stop, but he refused to listen. Besides, she wanted it as well, so she just let him continue. In the end, she had no energy left.
He ignored her. In his mind, the meeting she mentioned might be an excuse to see her lover. When he finished, he showered and got dressed before heading out.
The hospital was as busy as ever. Joseph had already kept Theodore occupied elsewhere. Finally, he had the chance to treat Frank alone. Paige owed him a favor and was on his side. So, she helped cover for him.
After carrying out acupuncture therapy, Joseph managed to restore Frank’s strength to write. However, Joseph decided the timing wasn’t right yet for Frank to speak.
“Joseph, New World Group was burned down. How are my wife and child? Can you guarantee their safety?” Frank
wrote.
Joseph raised an eyebrow. “How do you know about that? Who told you?”
“Theodore. He said that my wife and child might be in danger and that I needed to wake up quickly to protect them. Joseph, how are they?” Frank asked.
Joseph replied, “So, he wanted to provoke an emotional reaction by telling you all this. Unfortunately for him, he isn’t skilled enough for that.
“Don’t worry. Your wife and child are fine. I’ll arrange for them to visit you later. As for the fire at New World Group, it wasn’t the only thing that happened. Warren died at Croma Hospital. It looks like a heart attack caused by his existing medical conditions, but it was probably murder.”
Frank was frightened. Sweat immediately appeared on his forehead and face. At the same time, he was furious. He wrote, “How can the Croma faction do such things?”
Joseph responded, “Different social classes stand in different places. To people at the top, ordinary people are like ants. If they want someone dead, crushing that person feels no different than stepping on an insect.
“Sooner or later, they’ll face the same fate themselves. Someone with more power just needs to show up.”
“Does such a person exist?” Frank asked.
“If you believe they do, they do,” said Joseph.

He had to believe it himself. Otherwise, how could he ever hope to bring down Cora and the man behind her?
Bernard was right. Decades of study and hard work could never shake the foundation that three generations of the Lowell family had built. But then again, how many families had stayed powerful beyond three generations?
If Joseph couldn’t find someone stronger, he would become that person himself. One day, he would personally drag both Cora and her lover down.
