Chapter 259
Joseph noticed that Cora’s car wasn’t following him, but one of her bodyguards’ cars was. As he approached an intersection ahead, he suddenly made a sharp U-turn, driving straight toward the bodyguard’s car.
At the last second, the bodyguard swerved out of the way. The car jumped the curb and became stuck.
Joseph had won the gamble. Those bodyguards would never actually crash into him. Even if he weren’t Cora’s husband, they wouldn’t choose a head-on collision. No sane person would.
Just like that, Joseph shook off the tail. He sped away, disappearing into the night. After switching cars midway, he arrived at Kingsley Estate.
Brooke was already asleep, but Rosalie was still awake. Whenever Joseph hadn’t texted Rosalie, she would stay up/ waiting until midnight.
Rosalie greeted, “Joseph, you’re here. We made ravioli this evening, and I saved some for you. I’ll heat them up.”
“Sounds good. I’ll take a shower first,” replied Joseph, feeling touched. Cora would never do such a thing. Watching Rosalie busy herself in the kitchen, he couldn’t help thinking that this was what a real home felt like.
A husband worked to support the family, while a wife cared for the home. Each understood the other’s burdens, and they built a peaceful household together.
The ravioli wasn’t particularly well made, but Joseph enjoyed every bite. After dinner, he looked over Brooke’s homework. The improvement was obvious.
Joseph asked, “Was your daughter deliberately doing poorly in school before?”
Rosalie answered, “Maybe. She’s actually very smart. I think she knew we didn’t have money, so she didn’t want to get top grades.”
Rosalie felt ashamed. As Brooke’s guardian, Rosalie had spent too much time arguing with Brooke instead of thinking about Brooke’s future.
Joseph sighed. “You two really don’t realize how fortunate you are. By the way, I’m going to be very busy from now on, so I may not be able to visit often. Don’t worry, though, I’ll make sure her tuition is taken care of.”
Joseph’s relationship with Cora had collapsed. If she ever discovered this place, Rosalie and Brooke would inevitably be dragged into danger.
Cora wasn’t one to show mercy, and whoever was helping her strategize-or whoever her lover was-was bound to be even more ruthless.
People at their level weren’t kind. While they usually acted kind, they dropped the act once their interests were threatened. As long as there was something to gain, almost any method became acceptable, including murder and
arson.
“Are you not coming because you’ve grown tired of us?” Rosalie asked, her expression dim.
Over the past several days, she had slowly opened her heart to Joseph. Part of her had begun hoping that this life could continue forever. It wasn’t just because he could provide financial security, but he had also become the person she leaned on emotionally.
She was still a woman who longed for someone to depend on, and no one was more suitable than him.
Although Joseph was almost 40 years old, he was a doctor and maintained his appearance well. He had a good

mentality, too. Besides, his work environment was great. That was why he could remain youthful. He looked like a man barely in his early 30s.
