After seeing Belinda off, Joseph barely had time to process the news before a patient in one of the wards suddenly took a turn for the worse. He rushed over with his colleagues to join the rescue effort.

Two more exhausting hours passed. He had only just managed to take a sip of water when Mason summoned him.

When Joseph entered Mason’s office, he saw three unfamiliar visitors there as well. One of them was a middle aged man with eyes like a venomous snake’s.

Joseph sized the man up and found that he had a slight resemblance to Barry. Beside him stood an elderly man with the bearing of a master physician.

Were they from the Zahn family? What did they want with him? Was this about Barry? It seemed like Belinda had been telling the truth.

Joseph made a mental note to have Belinda obtain every piece of information she could on the Zahn family.

The third person in the room was a young man with long, measured breaths and an unblinking gaze. He had the unmistakable air of an expert fighter. It seemed like they were prepared to use force if necessary.

Joseph took in the sight of the three strangers without a flicker of anxiety. “Did you need me for something? Couldn’t we have handled it over the phone?”

“Dr. Hart, please go over the treatment process for Barry Zahn with them.” Mason made no effort to introduce the three visitors. Either introductions weren’t necessary, or Joseph didn’t have the right to know who they were.

Joseph frowned thoughtfully. “Barry? You mean the man who refused to use his real name? The one whose condition somehow required a consultation with half the hospital’s specialists, even though it wasn’t even serious? If it’s him, I don’t recall much. It was a completely straightforward case.
