A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 305

Chapter 305

Joseph ignored Cora’s orders. After ending the call, he called Paula and got straight to the point.

“Someone wants to have your sister transferred to the Traditional Medicine Center. As soon as she gets there, she’s as good as dead.

“When that happens, it won’t be just you losing your older sister. I’ll be in serious trouble too. Jenna and the others will blame me for your sister’s death, so you can’t agree to have her transferred.”

“I’ll stand my ground. We should wait until Belinda wakes up before we decide anything.” Paula was instantly worried. Still, she made up her mind to take Joseph’s side.

“Your sister will wake up tomorrow. Just hang in there for a couple of days. Once she’s awake, I’ll have her transferred somewhere safe to recover.”

Joseph went over the instructions with Paula, laying out a script for how to stop an attempt to transfer Belinda. Even though he didn’t exactly trust Paula, he had no choice but to assume she was on his side.

Early the next morning, an associate director came to see Joseph and immediately got to the point. “The Townes wish to take Belinda Towne away. Have her discharged.”

“Do you work for the Townes?” Joseph looked up at the associate director. This person used to be in charge of HR, but after a series of incidents, the hospital had been placed under temporary administrative control.

He was now acting on behalf of Mason, managing staff and administrative affairs. Even so, most of his authority had been stripped away.

Joseph was in charge of medical work, while the associate director was from an administrative background. Since the associate director had no medical background, he couldn’t interfere with Joseph’s work.

Once new leadership took over the hospital, people like the associate director would definitely be sidelined. Joseph saw no reason to take them seriously.

“So what if I am? And if I’m not, so what?”

“If you work for them, you can resign right now. Or you can transfer to another hospital like Marvin Pierce did. There’s no place for you in this hospital.

“If you don’t work for the Townes, then return to your duties and stay out of medical things you don’t understand, “Joseph said calmly. He could tell that the associate director was trying to get on the good side of either the Towne family or the Zahn family.

“Joseph, you… Dr. Hart, the patient’s family wishes to have her transferred. How could you get in the way and refuse to let her go?”

Joseph didn’t answer and gestured for the associate director to leave instead.

Joseph entered the hospital room and examined Belinda. According to the medical records, she had woken briefly in the early hours of the morning, but she drifted back into unconsciousness very quickly.

He proceeded with an acupuncture treatment to stimulate Belinda’s nervous system and wake her up. At the same time, he removed her oxygen mask.

Belinda took a few moments to gather herself. Seeing that it was just Joseph in the room, she said, “Joseph, I didn’t betray you! I took the fall for everything. I took these beatings for you too.”

“If I’d known from the start, I never would’ve saved you. As long as you were dead, I’d be safe for sure!” Joseph

remarked.

“You… You’re so heartless!”

“That’s enough. At this point, are you really still trying to play games with me? Yesterday, your family and the Zahns called me, asking me to hand you over, but I refused.

“No matter what, Jenton University Hospital is still a public place. Too many people come and go here.

“I can’t guarantee that no one will try getting close to you and harm you. Do you have somewhere safer to recover?
