A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 307

Chapter 307

Joseph’s explanation for transferring Belinda out of the hospital clearly wasn’t convincing enough. But the Townes and Zahns only came to question him and did not take any further action, such as calling the police.

When Joseph left the hospital, he realized he was being followed, and the people tailing him weren’t even trying to hide it. Still, he was able to shake them off easily and quietly arrived at Dolly’s villa, where Belinda had been placed.

Joseph had hired a doctor and some nurses to take care of Belinda there, so her condition remained stable and she continued to recover.

He performed acupuncture to help Belinda sleep before going to talk with Dolly.

Dolly made some tea for him, saying, “During the day, your wife called me up. She also sent someone to check my sanatorium.

“Only after confirming that Belinda wasn’t there did Cora finally relax. From what she said, I could tell she was warning me to keep my distance from you. You’ve been offending a lot of people lately.”

“That’s right. They think they’re above everyone else and can dictate the fate of others. In the end, they’ll be left with nothing but regret.”

Joseph had become numb to whatever Cora did. He would be surprised if she ever stopped hiding what she did outside their marriage.

“Then you must stay true to yourself. Victory will be yours in the end,” Dolly said. Since she couldn’t interfere in his marriage, she could only offer him support within her means.

Joseph and Dolly had a long chat. She had been watching what he had been doing lately. Even though she admired his actions, she was also worried about him.

Joseph spent the night there. The next morning, he treated Belinda again before returning to the hospital.

Since it was the weekend, Helen showed up at the hospital again. This time, she brought Kimberly along, intending to leave her in his care.

Joseph gave Kimberly a tablet to play games on before he went to make his rounds, and that really upset Helen. Still, he didn’t let her have her way and had security escort her out of the hospital.

Very quickly, Cora’s call came in. “Honey, how could you throw my mom out of there…”

“Cora, you sent Kimberly to me. What the hell are you thinking? Don’t you know who the child’s father is?

“You want me to look after your bastard so you can go on a date with your lover? Aren’t you despicable? You have no shame at all. You’ll regret this.”

Even though Joseph really missed Kimberly, he remained cold toward Cora. After all, he had raised Kimberly as his daughter for years and had given her everything he could.

Now, whenever he saw Kimberly, he would be reminded of Cora’s affair with Kimberly’s biological father, and his heart would break all over again.

“Joseph, don’t you dare slander me. My conscience is clear. I’ve never done the things you claim I did.”

Hearing that, Joseph ended the call right away. He left Kimberly in his office and told Paige to check on her from time to time. He then left the hospital to treat a retired official at the sanatorium.

At noon, he stayed at the sanatorium for lunch too. Once he finished his meal, he got another call from Cora.

This time, she was furious and got right to the point. “Joseph, you’re so heartless! How could you leave your daughter alone at the hospital while you went off to treat someone else? Also, how could you let her eat junk food for lunch?”
