A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 329

Chapter 329

A day went by, and Marla still hadn’t given Joseph the answer he wanted, leaving him deeply disappointed.

“Damn it, I’ve gone and played the good guy again! I guess that’s what happens when one is a doctor.”

It wasn’t as though Joseph expected something in return for saving lives. As a doctor, treating the sick and saving. lives was his duty. He couldn’t refuse to treat a patient just because the family couldn’t offer him anything in

return.

At least this incident made Joseph see Marla and her people for what they really were. ‘If there were ever a next time, even if she slit her own throat right in front of him, he wouldn’t lift a finger to help her.

Dolly continued keeping Joseph updated. The old rich man who’d received the blood transfusion was doing even better now.

To avoid attracting unwanted suspicion, he had already left the sanatorium to recuperate in another city. The mother and son had also been relocated.

“Let’s just hope he doesn’t resort to such procedures again.”

Joseph could already see where this was headed. A person like that rich old man would never give up something like this after he had gotten a taste of the benefits.

But that was a problem for another day, and it would no longer be Joseph’s concern.

His informant at the Traditional Medicine Center reported something similar. Maurice had also undergone some kind of blood-cleansing procedure. But as far as Joseph was concerned, that was nothing more than another way to call exchange transfusions.

Clearly, Jenna and the others wouldn’t simply sit around waiting for the inevitable. Perhaps they had some extraordinary medical technique up their sleeves, like using fresh plasma from young donors to fundamentally reboot his physiological systems and wake him up.

Would something like that work?

Joseph believed that the Zahn Medical Sect wasn’t renowned for nothing. This approach had a real chance of succeeding. Realizing this gave Joseph a new direction in his research on longevity.

Later that day, he brought it up with Katie. “This might actually be a long-lost secret technique from your Gould family! Your ancestor really was an incredible person.”

Katie let out a wistful sigh. Feeling a little conflicted, she said, “No matter how remarkable our ancestor was, he was still outmaneuvered in the end. By the time things got passed down to us, all the real treasures were lost.”

“Every cloud has a silver lining. Maybe your generation will have opportunities of its own.”

Joseph changed the subject. Just then, another critical patient arrived in the department, so he hurried off to work.

Katie went to check on Kenneth. Realizing he was already fine but still pretending to be ill, she scoffed. “Out of all the Gould family’s legitimate male heirs, the most useless one just had to be you. The Gould family is truly doomed.”

“Hey, I might be acting like this, but I haven’t been sitting around doing nothing. Maurice isn’t waking up anytime soon. You and Joseph will be hearing good news soon.”

Kenneth didn’t elaborate any further. This wasn’t something he could talk about in the hospital, where anyone

could be listening.

Besides Joseph with his god-tier medical skills, pretty much anyone else in this building would kill to get their hands on the Gould family’s secret techniques.

Joseph’s medical expertise came from systematically organizing and integrating what he had learned. And with his unparalleled talent, it simply wasn’t something others could imitate.

The Gould family’s medical books, however, contained complete treatment methods. All one had to do was follow the instructions step by step.

Something occurred to Kenneth, and he said, “The Zahn medical sect has begun investigating me. They’ll probably come after you too, so be careful.”

“They’re just now getting around to investigating you? Or are you only realizing it now, after the fact?”

“The moment something happened to me, I ran straight to Jenton University Hospital. Of course that would draw their attention. But I’m guessing Joseph will end up taking the fall for me anyway.”
