A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 330

Chapter 330

Joseph received a call from Shirley. She wanted to bring Mia in for a checkup so Joseph could give her one last look -over before flying her out of the country for further recovery and treatment.

Joseph wasn’t opposed to it. The hospital had no shortage of doctors who could handle the physical exams, so he claimed he was too busy.

Right after he hung up, Cora called. “Honey, the teacher called again. Selena is upset at school. You need to go down there and have a heart-to-heart with her.”

“Why are you telling me this? Handle it yourself.”

“You’re her father-”

“Am I, though? Don’t insult me, Cora.”

With that, Joseph ended the call. Selena had been calm for a while, but now she was back to causing trouble. Regardless, he no longer had any right to interfere because he wasn’t her biological father.

He had no business parenting some other man’s child.

After hanging up, Joseph thought it over. He couldn’t rule out the possibility that this was another one of Cora’s schemes. With Cora’s abilities, handling Selena should be a piece of cake.

That afternoon, state officials showed up at the hospital. They took Mason, Joseph, and several others to the Traditional Medicine Center.

Maurice had suddenly become critically ill. The Zahn medical sect could only keep him alive for the time being. They were still a long way from saving him, let alone waking him up.

Joseph had no desire to go, but he had to because it was an assignment from the state authorities. As long as he was still employed in the public healthcare system, he had no choice but to follow orders.

When they arrived at the consultation room in the Traditional Medicine Center, Joseph noticed several members of the Towne family present. The one who drew his attention the most, however, was Jonas.

All signs pointed to Cora and Jonas being extremely close. With access to the Towne family’s resources, as well as those of the Zahn family, Jonas had assisted Cora in numerous ways, making her vastly wealthier.

If Cora was willing to hop into a milk bath with someone like Warren, chances were she’d also played along with someone like Jonas.

Cora denied everything, and Jonas didn’t even bother to avoid Joseph, let alone take any responsibility, Since they both treated Joseph like an idiot, he wasn’t going to play nice.

Joseph noticed that whenever Jonas looked his way, his gaze was hollow. And the second they were about to make eye contact, Jonas would deliberately look away.

He also noticed that Jonas didn’t even come close to matching him in height or looks. The fact that Cora was so cozy with Jonas obviously came down to Jonas’ family background.

Joseph thought, “Cora, Jonas, will you still look down on me when I’ve stripped you of everything you have? Will you still treat me like a fool and continue to insult me?”

Shoving the thoughts aside, he scanned the room and opened the file in front of him to check Maurice’s latest test results.

Judging by the numbers, Maurice already had one foot in the grave. The Zahn medical sect had probably run out of options.

Joseph had a way to save him, but he had zero intention of stepping forward.

When Jenna called on him for his opinion, Joseph just said, “I don’t have any better ideas either. I agree with sticking to the current treatment plan. We do what we can and leave the rest to fate.”
