But did any of that really have anything to do with Joseph? He certainly didn’t think so.

After spending three days at the guesthouse, Joseph left and headed for the monastery.

The abbot welcomed him. After sharing a meal and some tea, the abbot asked, “It hasn’t been long since we last met. Why have you come back so soon?”

Joseph said, “I don’t have work at the moment, so I thought I’d take some time to relax. If you think I’m disturbing your peace, I’ll leave.”

Joseph had donated some money and paid for his stay.

“It’s fate that brought you here. How could I drive you away? Besides, your visit might help me solve another problem,” the abbot replied with a smile.

The abbot understood that the monastery needed money to continue operating. Joseph had donated generously during his previous visit and had brought another donation this time. How could he possibly turn away such a benefactor? Not to mention, Joseph had once saved his life.

“What problem?” Joseph asked.

The abbot answered, “You’ll find out if it doesn’t rain tomorrow.”

Joseph raised an eyebrow. “Do all abbots like speaking in riddles?”

The abbot chuckled. “It’s nothing complicated. It’s just a patient. Since you’re a doctor, it happens to be your specialty.”

Joseph replied, “You might not have a medical license, but your medical skills aren’t bad. Why don’t you treat the patient yourself?”

The abbot said, “All I have is a little bit of medical knowledge. It’s nothing compared to you.”

Everyone had their own specialty. His expertise lay in prayers and scripture. When it came to healing the sick, he was far inferior to Joseph.

Joseph nodded. “Then we’ll talk about it tomorrow.”

Since it involved treating a patient, Joseph had no objections. Then, the two continued talking about scripture.

Dressed in the monastery’s robes, Joseph joined the abbot and the others for morning prayers before sharing breakfast with them.

He was quietly reading in his room when a young apprentice came to invite him to the front hall, saying that someone had come looking for treatment.

Only after arriving there did Joseph discover that the patient was a woman who appeared to be under 30. Even without makeup, her skin remained flawless, while her features were truly beautiful. Even beneath her loose- fitting clothes, Joseph could tell she had an amazing figure.

What was a woman like her doing in such a rundown monastery?

Joseph was a little confused. When he saw that her complexion looked healthy and showed no obvious signs of illness, he was even more puzzled.

The abbot briefly introduced Joseph as a highly skilled physician who was temporarily staying at the monastery.

The woman was equally surprised to find someone like Joseph staying there at the monastery. She nodded politely and said, “Thank you for your assistance.”

Joseph shook his head. “No need to thank me. I haven’t even examined you, but judging from your complexion and the way you carry yourself, I can already tell that you are physically healthy. If your illness is one of the heart,- then I can’t treat it. You should go back down the mountain.”

The woman frowned. “How can you reach that conclusion just like that? You’re being awfully presumptuous. If weren’t sick, why would I come here seeking treatment?”

Her favorable impression of Joseph quickly faded, and she had a serious frown on her face.

Joseph replied calmly, “If your body isn’t sick, but you keep saying you are, then it’s probably a mental illness. I can’t cure that either. This is a monastery for men. We don’t accept female disciples. If you’ve come to renounce the world, you should find a convent instead. Isn’t that right, abbot?”
