Joseph said, “Jenton still belongs to the Zahns. With the little strength and influence you and I have right now, we wouldn’t be able to do much to them. So what could we really accomplish?”

Joseph was waiting for the outsiders to make their move. Just like how the Croma faction dealt with the Ashmores, once the Townes were dealt with, the Zahns would lose one of their strongest allies. When the true face of the Zahn family was finally exposed, its downfall wouldn’t be far behind.

After lunch with the Snows, Joseph returned to the city. He rested briefly before heading over to treat Marie. By the time he finished, it was already evening.

Not long after he returned to the office, Cora arrived. Looking at her breathtakingly beautiful face, Joseph felt both captivated and tormented.

Cora said, “Honey, come home with me and get some proper rest.”

She noticed he looked even more worn out than before. His shaved head had already begun to grow out, covered in a fresh layer of dark stubble.

Joseph did not respond; he simply brewed a fresh pot of tea. His silence was enough to tell Cora that he wouldn’t be going home that night.

She wanted to stay, but the moment she walked upstairs, she caught a whiff of a familiar perfume.

Meanwhile, the counter-fragrance was right in Joseph’s hand. If he sprayed it, the two scents-pleasant enough on their own-would mix and instantly turn her stomach.

She said, “I’ll help you renovate your clinic. That way, you can open much sooner.”

She had dropped by the clinic several times, but even though it was under renovation, she never caught a glimpse of Joseph. Worse, the people she’d assigned to tail him kept getting intercepted. She was completely losing track of his movements.

If he wasn’t at the office and his phone was off, he effectively vanished off her radar.

Having Joseph work at Jenton University Hospital was a far better alternative, she reasoned. At least there, she would always know where to find him, making it easy to drop in and keep him company whenever she pleased.

Even though Joseph no longer listened to her, he never refused to treat any members of the Lowell family. Jenton University Hospital still remained under the Lowell family’s influence back then.

After Joseph left, a different faction took control of the hospital and completely shut the Lowells out.

She could understand why. The paternity test had made her look like an unfaithful wife, and she had no way to explain the truth.

On top of that, they had blamed the Lowells for forcing Joseph out of the hospital.

Joseph said, “You don’t need to. The greatest favor you could do me is to disappear from my life.”

Cora demanded bitterly, “Do you really hate me that much?”

Joseph replied, “I do. As long as you refuse to divorce me and refuse to apologize for betraying me, forgive you.

Joseph scoffed. “How much of the kindness you’ve shown me was even genuine? Where do I truly rank in your heart? Cora, if you dare to do something, you should have the courage to admit it.”
