Joseph and Lexi failed to reach an agreement, but neither of them let the conversation end on bad terms. They remained harmonious throughout.

After saying goodbye to Yelena, Joseph headed to the Snow family’s house in the suburbs to treat Richard.

Yelena and Lexi saw Joseph off before getting into the same car. Lexi asked, “Joseph really doesn’t listen to anyone. He’s so stubborn. How did you even get to know him?”

Yelena answered, “A while back, Joseph went to a monastery intending to become a monk. The abbot didn’t accept him as a disciple, but he did let him stay there. I happened to visit the monastery to pray for my grandmother, and the abbot introduced us. Later, Joseph cured my grandmother.

“You’ve only just met him. Spend more time with him, and you’ll realize he’s genuinely a good man. He’s someone you can trust.”

Glancing sideways at Lexi, Yelena added, “I think I understand what you’re trying to do. You’re planning to win him over with your charm, aren’t you?

“Unfortunately, you’ve met Joseph at the worst possible time. He’s in the middle of a failed marriage and doesn’t trust women anymore. How could your plan possibly work?”

Lexi asked, “Are you sure it won’t? It isn’t certain.”

Yelena sighed. “Since we’re friends, let me give you some advice. Go and apologize to him. Then, you should leave Jenton. Don’t get involved in the mess between him and Cora.”

Lexi said, “You know what I’m after, yet instead of helping me, you’re telling me to walk away. Are you really my friend?”

“Fine. Pretend I never said anything. My only concern right now is getting my grandmother treated. As long as you don’t interfere with that, do whatever you want,” replied Yelena.

Realizing Lexi had no intention of listening, Yelena gave up trying to advise Lexi.

That night, Joseph returned to his office from the suburbs. Lexi was already there and followed him inside.

A guest was still a guest, so Joseph observed proper etiquette. He prepared tea for her. When he noticed her hesitating to pick up the teacup, he smiled and said, “So, the Zahn medical sect’s rumors that I poisoned people have made you wary of me.”

“That isn’t true. I trust you,” responded Lexi, slightly embarrassed that Joseph had read her mind. Since she was friends with Yelena, he probably wouldn’t poison her. So, she picked up the teacup and drank the tea.

“Whatever your purpose is, my opinion hasn’t changed. Your family came here to claim a share of Jenton’s interests. Don’t lose sight of the bigger picture because of me,” stated Joseph without beating around the bush before Lexi could say anything.

“To me, you are important. Joseph, I know this is only our second meeting, and we don’t have any emotional foundation. However, I believe that I can give you the respect you’ve been missing. We can get to know each other. Feelings can grow,” replied Lexi.

“How do you plan to do that? Are you going to stay here tonight? Are we going to sleep together? Is that how it’ll begin?” Joseph questioned, thinking that Lexi was being too opinionated.

Lexi answered, “Sleeping together on our second meeting would be moving too fast. Once you divorce Cora, come
