Joseph waited for the cops to assess the damage. Not long after, officers from the local precinct showed up too.

Joseph had called them over. They were part of the task force investigating the two minors who had their blood drained, but since they hadn’t made any breakthroughs, the case was open.

The fact that the van was transporting human blood or blood products so haphazardly meant there had to be a larger operation producing or using it behind the scenes.

Joseph handed this lead to the task force, and they immediately arranged for someone to pick him up.

He sent the photos and videos to the police before giving them a quick rundown of what happened. After that, He left the rest to them and continued heading to the suburbs to treat Richard.

As it turned out, Richard wasn’t suffering from a wound infection. It was just indigestion and constipation/ nothing serious.

Afterward, Cindy took Joseph to the Snow family’s underground treasure vault and told him he could pick out three items.

Inside the vault was an impressive collection of antiques, including antique porcelain, ancient swords, unusual stones, and more.

Joseph wasn’t an expert on antiques. But thanks to the Lowell family’s vast collection, he’d picked up a thing or two through constant exposure. If he wasn’t mistaken, most of the things there weren’t worth much.

After all, if the Snow family really had priceless treasures, they might not have had to fear the Zahn family’s suppression and could still be thriving today.

Besides, with how powerful the Zahn family was, would they really have passed up the chance to strip the Snow family of its assets? Naturally, they wouldn’t have left anything of real value behind.

A more likely truth hit him. This could be a test from Cindy.

He politely declined the items and said that if they had any medical books, he would accept those instead. Then he left the vault.

Cindy locked the vault before following Joseph out. Seeing him light up a cigarette, she asked, “Joseph, are you really planning to become a monk someday?”

“Why do you ask?”

Joseph glanced back at her.

He actually did want to become a monk. At one point, the desire was almost overwhelming.

But he knew he wasn’t over Cora yet. He couldn’t bring himself to leave her and the children. Still, he hated Cora, and he wanted to be with someone young and beautiful, marry her, have children, and live a better life than he ever had with Cora.

That, in itself, would be a form of revenge. But even then, he knew he’d still feel unsatisfied.

Cindy blurted out, “Please don’t become a monk, Joseph. I-I really want to repay you. If you’ll have me, I’m willing to be your woman.”

Was that a confession? Joseph immediately began evaluating Cindy in his mind. Aside from her youth, what else did she have? She was still recovering from a major illness and wasn’t at her best appearance-wise.
