A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 403

Chapter 403

“What’s this supposed to be? Your way of challenging me? Now that you’ve secured the Towne family, you’re cutting me loose?”

“You got what you needed from me too. I helped you secure the partnership of the Lowell, Banks, and York families with the Towne family, and you also got to safeguard your own interests.

“So don’t act like you did me some huge favor or that I owe you. If you’re not going to appreciate a great guy like Joseph, I’ll gladly take him off your hands!”

“Belinda Towne, you’re a real bitch, the kind that bites the hand that feeds her!”

“That’s a little harsh! You and Joseph are basically at each other’s throats right now. Why not take a step back and. make the smarter move? Just divorce him and let him move on.

“I’ll be with him instead. And don’t worry-I’m not the petty type. You can always drop by whenever you want to have some fun with him.”

“You’re shameless! Keep dreaming!”

Having heard enough, Cora stormed out.

She sat in the car, her heart growing colder by the second. “Belinda, I haven’t even settled the score with you for setting fire to our headquarters yet, and now you want to take my husband too?

“Do you honestly think I need you to get by? Go ahead and laugh while you can. Soon enough, I’ll wipe that smile off your face.”

She headed back to the clinic, but Yelena stopped her at the door. “Joseph is treating one of my relatives right now. Don’t start looking for trouble.”

“What do you mean by looking for trouble? I’m just here to see my husband. Don’t forget your place. Step aside!” Cora snapped, clearly displeased.

Yelena didn’t budge. Instead, she warned Cora in a cold voice, “You’re the one who needs to remember your place! Don’t make me bring up your dirty laundry again!

“You’re not the reason I’m showing restraint. Your children and Joseph are.”

“You…”

Cora’s frown deepened. The whole DNA test mess had really done a number on her relationship with Joseph. The longer the misunderstanding remained unresolved, the deeper the rift between them would become.

She toned down her voice. “I came to ask him to go to the Traditional Medicine Center to check on his daughters. I wouldn’t be here interrupting him otherwise.”

“Then wait a moment. If there are any complications at the Traditional Medicine Center, Jenna will call Joseph. The fact that she hasn’t means things are probably fine and that she can manage the situation.”

Yelena only knew that Joseph’s three daughters were sick and hospitalized. She had no idea that Joseph had actually orchestrated the whole setup.

It wasn’t long before Joseph stepped out of the treatment room. Cora quickly went up to him. “Honey, are you done with work? I need to talk to you about Nat’s condition.”

“Let’s talk in my office,” Joseph said flatly.

Since there were others present, Joseph didn’t show any hostility toward Cora. After giving Yelena a few instructions, he had her arrange for someone to take the patient back.

Back in his office, Joseph took a sip of water and asked, “What’s going on? Just spit it out.”

“The girls aren’t doing so great. I’m worried and want you to go take a look.”

“You’ve been running around consulting so-called experts every day. You’re letting your worry get the better of you. They just need to stick to the treatment plan.

“Yara might be within our reach right now, but we still don’t know why she was drawing their blood, who she intended to give the blood to, or who their biological father is.
