A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 408

Chapter 408

After getting some rest, Joseph slipped out of Kingsley Estate before dawn. When he got to the company, he noticed the front gate was open, and his office was unlocked. Surprisingly, nothing inside had been stolen.

“Did the lock break, or did I just forget to lock up?”

Joseph pulled up the security footage. It turned out the gate had opened on its own last night, and nobody had entered for a long time afterward.

Then, Shirley and Cora showed up. Shirley had hung around for a bit, but once Cora arrived, they both took off.

“What did they come here for?”

After breakfast, Joseph called Shirley to ask what had happened.

Shirley was still in bed, but she forced herself to sound awake. “I laid my cards on the table with Jonas yesterday.I was upset, so I went to find you, but you weren’t in your office. Where did you go?”

“You did? Did you get Jonas’ money?” Joseph asked instead of answering her question.

He highly doubted it. Shirley wasn’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, and Jonas wasn’t that easy to fool. Besides, Jonas was still involved with Cora, so there was no way she’d sit back and watch his fortune slip away to

someone else.

In Shirley’s eyes, Cora was just a homewrecker trying to cozy up to Jonas. But Joseph didn’t believe Shirley had any chance of winning against Cora.

“No, there’s no way he’d give me the money…”

“If he didn’t give you any money, then why did you tell him everything? What were you thinking?”

“I just miss you! I just want to be with you sooner!”

Joseph let out a sneer. Shirley really was as dumb as a rock, not that he ever expected much from her anyway.

He changed the subject. “Then what did Cora want with you?”

“She thought I was with you and came to catch us in the act. Even though she came up empty-handed, I still declared my intentions to her. I told her to divorce you as soon as possible, so I could be with you.”

“You’re an absolute idiot!”

“Joseph, don’t say that! I just want to be with you sooner. You’re a doctor, so you should know exactly what my body is going through.”

“You can’t even control your own urges, yet you think you can get your hands on Jonas’ money right under Cora’s nose? What a joke!”

Joseph ended the call. Now that Cora knew about Shirley’s intentions, there was no way she would spare her. Cora was going to destroy Shirley.

He got someone to fix the electric gate out front before heading over to the clinic.

This time, Yelena brought in a different relative, a woman from the Foster side of the family. She was 40 years old, and rather large.

As a five-foot-eleven woman who weighed nearly 260 pounds, she was practically a walking giant blob of meat.

Her face was surprisingly small, though. All the flab was strictly from the neck down. Her main complaint was infertility.

After examining her, Joseph concluded that there was nothing fundamentally wrong with her. She had a minor gynecological inflammation, but nothing that would cause infertility.

Just as he was about to write up a prescription to help regulate her body, Joseph caught a look of disdain in her eyes, as if she was thinking, “So he’s nothing special after all.”

So he asked, “Looks like you’ve got something on your mind.”

Yelena had been present throughout the entire examination, including when Joseph performed the pelvic exam.

Her face was still burning hot because she couldn’t stop imagining herself lying on that examination table with her feet in the stirrups while Joseph did a thorough checkup on her.

Just the thought of it was enough to make her blush.

Understanding what Joseph meant, Yelena turned to the woman, “Mandy, Joseph is one of us. You don’t need to hide anything from him.”
