A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 412

Chapter 412

This time, Joseph was treating Richard. The infection had been brought under control, and Richard had accepted his condition. He seemed a lot more optimistic now.

Joseph thought the change had come a little too quickly, then he saw the beautiful young woman tending to Richard at his bedside. There was a familiar expression in her eyes when she looked at him, one of love.

For the past 20 years, Joseph had looked at Cora with that same expression. He had loved Cora with all his heart.”

Unfortunately, he had loved the wrong person.

Joseph still believed in the existence of love, but he no longer had much faith that love could last a lifetime.

Other couples might be able to grow old together, but that was their story.

All he could do was silently wish the couple before him a happy future together.

Cindy shot Joseph a look and gestured for a private word. So, Joseph had Katie stay behind to explain Richard’s post-treatment instructions to his fiancee while he stepped aside with Cindy.

Joseph asked, “Is this about Yara?”

Cindy nodded. “After she was discharged, our people kept watch over her. She didn’t return to Emerald Mountain. Instead, she went to Skyhaven Central. She seems to own a property there.”

Joseph raised an eyebrow. “Skyhaven Central? Does she have any relatives there?”

Cindy shook her head. “I had someone look into the ownership records, and she doesn’t seem to have any relatives there. Of course, the property could be registered under someone else’s name. We’d need cooperation from the authorities to dig deeper.”

Joseph answered, “Don’t waste your resources on that. Just keep an eye on Yara and make sure you don’t lose her.”

He suspected that Cora had probably discovered Yara’s whereabouts as well, but he no longer trusted her. He knew that after Yara was discharged, whoever backed her would almost certainly come to visit.

Of course, they might have already done it. Cindy’s people weren’t professionals, so mistakes were inevitable.

Joseph could live with mistakes because he already had his next move in mind.

Divorcing Cora was never going to be a quick battle.

The Zahn family was enormous. It was impossible to bring it down. Even if it fell, it wouldn’t die easily.

Joseph came from nothing, so how could he force Cora to compromise? And how could he investigate the Zahn family?

So, he had to be very patient.

After discussing a few more matters with Cindy, Joseph left with Katie.

That night, Joseph received an unexpected visit from Jenna at the company. The smell of alcohol on her was unmistakable. She had clearly driven there after drinking.

As she picked up the tea Joseph handed her, she suddenly thought of something and asked, “You didn’t put anything in this, did you?”

Joseph replied casually, “Of course I did. I put in an aphrodisiac. Drink it, and I won’t let you leave later. You’ll finally experience what a real man is like.”

Jenna scoffed. “Am I supposed to be afraid of you? If you actually dared, I’d enjoy myself first, then report you afterward and send you straight to prison.”

Oddly enough, his ridiculous claims actually made her trust him. After all, who warned someone before poisoning them?”

Joseph smirked. “Enjoy yourself? That makes sense. Victor was so old he probably needed medication just to keep up with you. You’re still young, so it must have been hard satisfying that appetite of yours.”
