A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 416

Chapter 416

Cora had intended to visit Shirley again, but Shirley was nowhere to be found at the Towne family’s estate. Instead, one of her subordinates reported that Shirley had gone to Joseph’s company.

Cora mumbled to herself, “What’s she trying to do? Run to Joe for comfort?”

If Joseph relented and truly sympathized with Shirley, then Shirley’s scheme would work out perfectly.

Cora hurried over. As expected, she found Shirley in Joseph’s office, crying.

She asked, “What are you doing here pretending to be pitiful? Stop talking to my husband and go back to taking care of Jonas.”

Knowing that Cora was on Jonas’ side, Shirley ignored Cora. Jonas had always trusted Cora more than her anyway.

Joseph said, “Cora, you came at the perfect time. What you did today is beyond despicable. If you want to become Jonas’ wife, you’ll have to divorce me first. But you refuse to do so. Today, you’ve really overstepped your place.”

He had spent the entire afternoon with the investigation team and had only just returned to the office when Shirley started complaining about Jonas transferring away his assets. Frankly, he was getting annoyed by Shirley’s complaints.

At that moment, he despised Cora. Everything she was doing was for Jonas’ sake. If she cared about Jonas that much, then she should just divorce him and be with Jonas openly.

She had denied having an affair with Jonas before, but now she was running around handling Jonas’ affairs without the slightest concern for appearances. Joseph felt both disappointed and disgusted by her.

A woman who had a change of heart while still pretending to be devoted was all the more detestable.

Cora immediately said, “I have absolutely nothing to do with Jonas. You’ve misunderstood me. We’re just going through some difficult times right now, and people are trying to destroy our marriage for their own selfish reasons. Honey, please believe me.”

Without even looking at Joseph’s expression, Cora could tell that Shirley had been adding fuel to the fire. Still, she knew that even if Shirley and Joseph joined forces, they wouldn’t get a single cent of Jonas’ money.

Jonas’ fortune would be left to his children.

“Joseph, don’t believe her. She’s a liar!” Shirley hurriedly interjected.

“I’ll make my own judgment. You should leave now.” Joseph had actually already given Shirley some advice. He had told her to seek out Belinda. After all, there was no way Belinda would want Jonas’ money falling into someone else’s hands. Her ambitions required money to succeed.

Soon, only Cora and Jonas remained in the office.

“Why are you helping Jonas? Are you finally admitting your relationship with him?” Joseph asked.

Cora answered, “He’s just a business associate of the Lowells. He knows certain things about us. He might be sick, but he still has connections. Continuing to work with him will bring us the greatest benefits. Honey, believe me. Jonas and I are only business partners.”

Even when she was trying to explain herself, there were certain details she couldn’t divulge.

“Was it your idea to leave Shirley without a single cent?” Joseph asked.

Cora shook her head. “That has nothing to do with me. Stop acting like I’m capable of controlling everything.”
