A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 484

Chapter 484

Yara stared at Joseph’s injured finger and asked, “What are you talking about? Who from my family did

that?”

Joseph shook his head. “I would rather not say.”

Yara narrowed her eyes. “Tell me. Otherwise, I’ll have someone break it again.”

Joseph said reluctantly, “It was your brother, Skylar.”

Yara raised an eyebrow. “Skylar? Why would he do that to you?”

Joseph replied, “Didn’t I tell you already? He didn’t like me telling you that your leg may have to be amputated. He also blamed me for taking your money.”

“That was just a warning not to be greedy and overcharge people. I’ll speak to him. As long as you behave yourself from now on, we won’t hurt you again.” Yara naturally sided with Skylar. Someone like Joseph wasn’t even worth a second glance in her eyes.

She had Joseph continue explaining her medical reports. Hearing that her condition was continuing to deteriorate and that amputation was drawing ever closer only made her increasingly restless and

irritable.

She brought Joseph with her to see Skylar, intending to put in a good word for him.

Skylar immediately told Joseph to get lost. Jenna had actually tried to speak to him earlier on Joseph’s behalf, and Skylar was convinced that Joseph must have shamelessly flattered both Yara and Jenna through underhanded means.

Just before the door closed, Joseph overheard Yara. “Skylar, we have to find Joseph and make him treat my leg.”

Joseph sneered inwardly. Treat her leg? That was never going to happen.

At noon, Jenna took Joseph out for lunch. They went to a revolving restaurant in the city center and were seated in a private room by the window.

After placing their orders, Joseph asked, “Did you strike it rich?”

Jenna replied, “I may not be wealthy, but I’m certainly not short on money Treating you to a meal isn’t a problem. You’re still pretending to be my boyfriend, after all Don’t I need to spend more time nurturing our relationship?”

Joseph teased, “So you’re taking this seriously? What’s next? Going to bed with me?”

Jenna scoffed. “In your dreams. You’re only using me right now. Once you’ve accomplished what you want, you’ll disappear and never show yourself again. We’ll probably never meet each other after that”

Joseph chuckled. “You’re surprisingly rational. That’s reassuring.”

Joseph then noticed Jenna taking out a pill. She said, “This is the miracle pill from the medical sect that you’ve been so curious about. If you want your injuries to heal more quickly, take one-fifth of it. Any more

than that, and it’ll be wasted.”

“How much is it?” Joseph asked as he picked it up and examined it closely.

Jenna huffed. “If you help me find a cure for the Towne family’s poison, I’ll give you one pill. Then neither of us will owe the other anything. Otherwise, this is a priceless treasure. How could something like this be measured in money?”

She was about to say something else when there was a knock on the door.

It was Cora and Peyton.

Joseph immediately put the pill away and took a sip of his drink, inwardly cursing his luck. It seemed like no matter where he went, he kept running into those two.

Cora spoke first. “Jenna, sorry for interrupting. This meal is on me. I just have one very important question for you.”
