Chapter 501

After stepping out of the room, Joseph saw Jenna approach him and ask him to accompany her to Skylar’s hospital

room.

Skylar had already fallen asleep after taking his medication. Otherwise, he would definitely have gone after Joseph again.

Jenna had Joseph examine Skylar’s wound and asked, “How is it?”

“It’s still infected. He’s not ready to be discharged. I suggest changing the treatment plan for the infection.

“Talk it over and decide what the next step is, but proceed with caution.” Joseph left it at that. He looked around the hospital room and realized some of Skylar’s work materials were missing.

Joseph suspected that the infection had worsened Skylar’s condition, forcing him to relinquish control of some of his projects. Or maybe the Zahns had taken that authority from him.

If that were true, it would play right into Joseph’s scheme. First, he would make Skylar lose everything, then slowly put him through hell.

“Got it!” Jenna did not act rashly. She led him out of the room and brought him to make rounds in the other wards.

Once everything was in order, Jenna and the others went to Emerald Mountain to pay their respects to Edmund.

Upon arrival, Joseph saw an ornate coffin. He finally realized that the Zahns intended to bury Edmund, who would be laid to rest in a valley on the far side of Emerald Mountain.

The Zahns had spent the entire night praying for Edmund, and his body had already been placed in the coffin.

By tradition, the body was not supposed to be in the coffin until that night, but the lesions on it had begun to decay, making it too unsightly. So the Zahns had no choice but to do it early.

“Oh, Dad…”

Joseph had not expected Yara to break down in tears at the sight of the coffin when they entered the hall. She even struggled to get out of her wheelchair.

That woman really knew how to put on a show. Joseph decided he would play along with her. He steadied her with one hand and helped her out of the wheelchair so she could throw herself onto the coffin.

Yara wailed over Edmund’s coffin, unable to let him go. She put on the perfect image of a grieving daughter in front of the crowd.

“My condolences to you! Everyone already noticed you. If you keep this up, it’ll be too much.” Joseph leaned over to help Yara back up, only to realize that she had deliberately squeezed his injured hand in the splint.

However, Yara’s breakdown was not the end of it. It was only the beginning.

The crowd of relatives nearby, including many women and children, started sobbing too. They were all members of Edmund’s family line.

Joseph looked at them and realized there were enough people to fill at least four tables.

That Edmund… Joseph wheeled Yara out of the hall and took her home first. Jenna and the others from the medical sect stayed behind.

He watched her sit by the window, observing the people passing along the village road. Even though she seemed

Joseph asked, “What now? Still want to put on a show for them? Keep it up in your condition, and you’ll need a leg amputation tomorrow!”

“You… Come here!” Yara glared at Joseph. She told him to lean closer so she could slap him.

However, Joseph saw it coming and stopped her hand, saying, “I’m just telling the truth. Do you have to fly off the handle like that?”

“If you let me slap you a few times, I’ll pay you. You won’t even agree to that?”

Joseph let out a chuckle.

“I may be broke, but I still have my pride. If you want to vent your anger, go take it out on your housekeepers. I’m sure they’d be more than happy to earn that kind of money!” Joseph said.
