Chapter 503

Joseph watched Cora walk into the hall and disappear from sight. Puzzled, he said, “That’s strange.
“Why didn’t she bring her daughters here? After all, they’re considered Edmund’s granddaughters too.”
“Hmph! Do you really think that old geezer needed more grandchildren?” Yara asked. She suddenly reached over. and pinched his thigh.
Yara was ill and barely had any strength. Still, Joseph yelped in pain and complained. “Why did you pinch me? What did I do to offend you?”
“Don’t ever mention Cora to me again! You’re just a worthless piece of trash, so you don’t get to talk about this
“I’m warning you-if I weren’t sick, I’d teach you a lesson!”
“Oh, got it. I won’t say another word!” Joseph pretended to zip his lips, but secretly, he thought Yara was just a coward who didn’t have the guts to own up to what she did.
Not long after, Jenna knocked before entering the room. She had come to get Joseph.
As they walked down the deserted village road, Jenna asked in a low voice, “You’ve been here for some time. You didn’t do anything to Yara, did you?”
“Who do you take me for? If I were to give myself away, I wouldn’t be able to walk out of here alive! I’m on higher alert than anyone else right now!”
“I’m glad you understand. I’m the one who brought you here. If you get into trouble, so do I! We’re in this together!” Jenna warned.
“I’m not going to wander around or mess with anything. Can’t you see? I haven’t done a thing.
“I was just curious about this place, so I wanted to come in and see for myself. I know my limits,” Joseph replied, though he kept looking around.
He looked toward the heart of the village. “Mr. Zahn Senior isn’t likely to attend a gathering like this, is he?”
“Of course not. But I can meet him if I bring Gemma along. The problem is you. What reason would I have to introduce you to him?
“If the reason isn’t solid enough, you might not even be allowed in. So, is the risk worth the reward? It’s your choice.”
“Take me to him.” Joseph made up his mind. This was only his second time at Emerald Mountain, and he had no idea when he would be back.
Jenna thought it over before saying, “Alright, then. I’ll ask Gemma to come along with us. We’ll head there together.”
Joseph went to the memorial hall and saw Cora and Belinda in the guest area. They were engrossed in conversation with several women.
Gemma walked over and asked Joseph with a smile, “What’s so interesting about an old man who’s over a hundred years old? You might as well stay here and get to know the rest of the family.”
“As long as you give me the chance, I can always get acquainted with these people later. But I may only get one chance to meet Mr. Zahn Senior,” Joseph said.

“Let’s go.” Jenna knew Joseph was probably interested in learning the old man’s secret to longevity. But what could he even discover from a single encounter?
Joseph, Jenna, and Gemma headed deeper into the village. Soon, they arrived in front of a simple but well-kept farmhouse.
A basic fence surrounded the property, with an old wooden gate at the entrance. Beyond the gate was a courtyard. Even though there were no trees, it featured a flower bed, a rock garden, and a fish pond.
Farther in was a small hall, and through an open corridor, they could see another courtyard beyond. A step at the far end of that courtyard led up to the main house.
