Jenna let out a chuckle. “How could something like that even happen? Dream on!”

Jenna quickly denied it, but deep down, she felt a little flustered.

Joseph was an exceptional doctor with a refined demeanor and striking looks. He was a man of many strengths-. gentle, kind, and charming. With so many admirable qualities, he was exactly the kind of partner she had always dreamed of.

“That’s disappointing! During my time at Emerald Mountain, I witnessed how fragile life can be, and the heartbreak of losing those we love.

“I realized we should cherish the people around us and the moments we have together. I thought we could take our relationship to the next level. I didn’t expect we’d still be right where we are. I’m really disappointed!”

The leader replied, “Dr. Hart, it’s not what you think. We were looking into someone else, not Skylar Zahn.

“However, the Zahns steered our investigation toward him. But since he’s in critical condition, it’s been hard for us to move the investigation forward.”

“They want him to take the blame?” Joseph hadn’t expected that to be the reason. He also realized that if Cora had known what was really going on, she wouldn’t have come to take Skylar away.

The biggest breakthrough for the task force would be to uncover evidence pointing directly to Owen. That would make the Zahns more likely to back down.

“We need more evidence to get to the bottom of this. Oh, right. Dr. Hart, many people are asking about your whereabouts.

“They want you to come back and treat a patient. Where are you now?”

“I heard about Michael Banks being hospitalized. His condition is beyond my expertise. Besides, the hospital already dismissed me.

“Even if I went back there, there’s nothing I can do. Of course, even if I were still at Jenton University Hospital, I couldn’t guarantee I could save him.

He lay in bed, pondering how Skylar had been made a scapegoat. He could either make things right or kick Skylar while he was down.

“Forget it. I’ll stick to what I’m best at. I’ll use my unorthodox medical techniques to slowly make him suffer and pay for humiliating me!”

Joseph took a nap before returning to the department at midnight. He was a little taken aback to learn that Gemma was watching over Skylar in his room.
