Chapter 518

“What investigation? Did she do something wrong?” Joseph asked, even though he knew the answer.

“Someone probably set her up. Now that that person has gone completely underground, suspicion has naturally fallen on Jenna. There’s no way she’s involved, though. She and that person have always been at odds,” answered

Gemma.

Joseph asked, “Are you talking about Joseph?”

Gemma snorted. “Who else could put our medical sect on high alert besides Joseph? Still, you probably won’t ever meet him. Honestly, you don’t need to.”

Based on Henry’s personnel file, he had no connection to Jenton University Hospital. Besides, Joseph was known as Cora’s husband. There was no reason for Henry and Joseph to cross paths.

Joseph asked, “Why is it Joseph again? I’ve heard all kinds of stories about him.”

Leaning closer to Gemma, Joseph said, “I heard that Joseph’s three daughters are actually Mr. Zahn’s children. Is that true?”

Gemma questioned, “Who told you that?”

Joseph responded, “You didn’t know? When Mr. Zahn was first admitted, Cora tried to take him away, but she was stopped. Otherwise, he would have ended up in her hands.”

Joseph noticed that Gemma’s expression had turned ghastly. So, he quickly said, “But I’m rooting for you and Mr. Zahn. You’re young, beautiful, and devoted. A cheater like Cora isn’t even worthy of carrying your shoes.”

Gemma replied, “I can see why Yara doesn’t dislike you. You dare to say anything. You’re right. I know that Joseph’s daughters belong to Skylar, but I don’t care. Cora isn’t worthy of him.”

Joseph added, “It isn’t just Cora. Madeline isn’t worthy of him either. The only proper match is you.”

“Who’s Madeline?” Gemma asked.

Joseph answered, “She’s Michael’s granddaughter. She’s in her 20s and pretty attractive. Before you came back, I saw her spend a long time in Mr. Zahn’s ward. When she came out, her face was flushed, and she was covering her mouth…”

“What? They messed around in the ward? What’s wrong with them? Come with me. Let’s confront Skylar,” stated Gemma, immediately thinking of something. It was obvious that she was angry.

“Gemma, don’t drag me into this. If Mr. Skylar finds out, he’ll kill me,” muttered Joseph.

Planting a few seeds of suspicion was enough. A direct confrontation would be another matter. In this identity, Joseph didn’t have the standing to challenge anyone openly.

Joseph tried to slip away, but Gemma grabbed him. She wanted to discuss Yara’s treatment with him. He pulled up a medical journal and let her make the decision.

After weighing the options, Gemma brought Joseph along to assist with Yara’s treatment. The results were good. Several of Yara’s blood markers improved. At this rate, amputation could be postponed for the time being.

Overjoyed, Yara wrote Joseph a check for 50,000 dollars. With Gemma standing nearby, Joseph pretended to hesitate. It was only after Gemma gave a nod that Joseph gratefully accepted it.

Afterward, Gemma took Joseph to Skylar’s ward and had Joseph review the latest test results.

Skylar’s condition was horrible. Although the infection hadn’t spread further and his fever was gone, the infection remained. He didn’t even have the strength to curse Joseph anymore. He just lay in bed weakly.

Joseph cursed in his mind, “Skylar, you humiliated me and made me raise your daughters as my own. If i don’t kill you someday, I won’t deserve to call myself a man.”
