He had no intention of forgiving her. He wanted her to spend the rest of her life regretting it. More than anything else, that was probably the revenge he truly sought.

After all, he still loved her. That was precisely why he couldn’t bring himself to truly destroy her. Otherwise, he’d already had countless opportunities to exact far crueler revenge.
