A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 554

Chapter 554

Cora turned to Natalie. “Natalie, go outside. This is between him and me.”

Cora desperately wanted to find out where Joseph was, but Natalie had recently been at odds with him. If Natalie went looking for him herself, there was no guarantee he would actually show his face.

Soon, only Joseph and Cora remained in the room.

Cora glared at Joseph. “Alright, enough with the nonsense. Name your price.”

Joseph replied, “When I told Natalie Zahn that I knew where Joseph was, I just said that to keep her from beating me up. You’re looking for Joseph, but so is the Zahn medical sect.”

Cora snapped back, “My daughter’s last name is Hart!”

Joseph shrugged. “Sure. Hart, Zahn-it doesn’t matter. Whatever makes you happy.”

“One million dollars,” Cora offered without hesitation, her eyes full of confidence and dripping with contempt for → the man in front of her.

He smirked. “You really do live up to your title as the richest woman in Jenton, casually throwing around a million like that. But I don’t have the guts to take your money. What if you change your mind and come after me later? Besides, what I have to say isn’t really worth that much anyway.”

After a brief pause, Joseph continued, “I can’t afford to cross people at your level. So the truth is, I don’t actually know where Joseph is.”

Cora narrowed her eyes. “Are you playing games with me? Do you think I don’t have the means to deal with you? You really think the Zahn medical sect can protect you? If you don’t tell me where my husband is, are you sure you’ll even be alive tomorrow?”

Joseph raised an eyebrow. “Is that a threat?”

Cora narrowed her eyes. “So what if it is? There’s no one else here. Who’s going to know what we said?”

Joseph laughed. “No wonder you’re the richest woman in Jenton. If you were a man, I wouldn’t have even blinked at your threat. Forget tomorrow-I’ll be alive well past that. Hell, you might be the one who doesn’t make it through the night. Unfortunately for me, I’m not the kind of man who hits women.”

His expression turned serious. “I don’t know exactly what Joseph is doing right now, but I can make a pretty good guess as to what he’s doing next. He’s preparing for a surgery to implant an artificial kneecap in someone who had their patella removed, so they can walk again.”

Cora frowned. “How do you know that?”

She wasn’t surprised that he would be doing something like this. He was the kind of person who would treat anyone he could help, regardless of who they were. What bothered her was that she had absolutely no idea he was working on such a case.

“It was quite a coincidence,” Joseph replied. “I was out looking for a place to get a foot massage. At an intersection, I saw this incredibly handsome guy passing by. He was driving an off-road Jeep, and there were some medical documents on the passenger seat regarding kneecap replacements.

“I didn’t know who he was at the time. I just remember thinking he was the most masculine guy I’d ever seen. If I had even a fraction of his looks, I’d die happy.

“Later, when word spread around the hospital about what happened between you and Skylar, I suddenly realized who that man was. He was the legendary doctor, Joseph Hart. He was the miracle doctor Yara and the others had been scouring Jenton for.”

Cora demanded, “Which intersection?”

“Breeze Road, I think,” Joseph replied. “The second intersection heading east. But that’s not what’s important. What matters is that he’s still in Jenton, and he’s getting ready to operate.”

Cora stared at him. His expression was calm; he didn’t look like he was lying. She committed the information to memory. As soon as she got back, she would dispatch her people to search that area.

“I’ll have someone send you the money later,” Cora said. “If you can provide me with any more useful information, I’ll pay you for that too.”

Joseph flashed her a smug, unseemly grin. “Ms. Lowell, I heard the Lowell family owns a place called Maroon Mansion. Supposedly, there are quite a few beautiful women there. I’m a guy who doesn’t exactly have much luck with women. Why don’t you arrange for one of them to keep me company?

“That lawyer who works for you-Fiona, right? I quite like her.”

As he spoke, he immediately noticed the icy, murderous look in Cora’s eyes.
