A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 565

Chapter 565

When Fiona entered, Joseph had just finished fastening his belt. She couldn’t help but wonder whether Shirley had actually pulled it off.

What an unexpected bonus.

Nothing would make an accusation of sexual harassment more convincing than catching him in the act. Even Fiona felt that things were going far beyond her original script.

Still, she ordered the bodyguards to seize him. “You filthy pervert! How dare you cause trouble in our company? You’ve got some nerve!”

Joseph replied calmly, “Fiona, you’re a lawyer, yet you’re willingly breaking the law. I’ll file a complaint against you with the bar association.”

He didn’t bother struggling; it would have been pointless. Cora’s bodyguards were all elite professionals. Ten men like Joseph couldn’t have gotten past even one of them.

“You’ve got quite the mouth on you!” Fiona hadn’t expected Joseph to be so fearless. Instead, his composure made her uneasy. She ordered the bodyguards to keep an eye on him while she stepped outside to find Shirley.

Shirley was in the restroom, retching into the sink. Fiona stopped her from rinsing her mouth. “This is evidence. We need to collect a sample first. I didn’t expect you to go this far and actually use your mouth to implicate him.”

Shirley groaned miserably. “No, I didn’t kiss him, Fiona. I didn’t do anything. The moment I got close, I smelled his breath. It was so awful that I couldn’t help but feel sick.”

Fiona frowned. “Are you sure you didn’t do anything?”

Shirley nodded. “His breath smelled like an open sewer. It was so disgusting that I couldn’t even get close to him.”

“Then why didn’t we smell anything when we walked in?” Fiona asked, confused.

Shirley’s eyes widened slightly. “I remember now. After you left, he sprayed something into his mouth. It looks like he knew from the beginning that I was trying to set him up and came prepared.”

Fiona sighed. “Regardless, this was your first assignment, and you botched it. Ms. Lowell is going to be very disappointed in you.

Why did that bastard have to adjust his belt like that? Fiona suddenly realized that Joseph had played her once again.

She grabbed a cup of coffee before returning to the conference room, dismissing the bodyguards on her way in. “Dr. Jebb, I spoke to the employee and confirmed that this was all a misunderstanding. I’d like to retract my earlier statements.”

Joseph chuckled. “You’re not planning to drug me in here and set me up again, are you? Ms. Lowell is the richest woman in Jenton, with assets worth billions. Surely she isn’t so petty that she’d hold a grudge over a small settlement payout.

“Resorting to these underhanded tricks is beneath her. Just tell me what she actually wants from me. If she’s really that angry, I can apologize to her and her daughter privately. After that, just leave me alone.”

Joseph smiled as he spoke. He didn’t trust Fiona in the slightest, yet here he was, pretending to back down. He found himself disgusted by how hypocritical he sounded.

“No, it really is just a misunderstanding,” Fiona reassured him, asking him to stay calm before she slipped out of the room once

more.

Joseph waited for a long time, but Fiona didn’t return. He guessed she had gone to consult Cora on how to clean up this mess. After mulling it over, Joseph drafted a short post subtly accusing the Lowell Group of staging a honey trap.

He planned to send the draft to Cora as a threat, but he quickly noticed that she had replied to his earlier message-the one

where he had asked for a private photo.

“Okay.”

That was all she wrote. No photo followed.-

Joseph was genuinely stunned. Was she really that easy to proposition? It seemed she was quite wild behind closed doors. But then he remembered how Cora had once gone to the hot springs with someone as grotesque as Warren. Her threshold for shame was clearly extremely low.
