Chapter 566
Cora invited them to have fonch at the staff cafeteria before they headed back.
“Gemma, are you so eager to find Joseph because you think he’ll actually save Skylar despite all the humiliation he’s suffered? Or do you have an ulterior motive?” Joseph asked. He sensed that Gemma and Cora must have discussed something else behind closed doors; it couldn’t have been solely about finding Joseph.
Gemma fell silent.
Joseph stepped closer, boldly slipping an arm around her waist from behind. Gemma immediately caught his hand, stopping him from wandering any further.
She feigned annoyance. “What are you doing? Do you have a death wish? We’re in public.”
“I’m not trying to do anything,” Joseph replied. “I just want you to understand that we’re on the same side. Don’t stab me in the back.”
Gemma scoffed. “Idiot. Do you think I’m that kind of woman? If I didn’t care about you, would I even let you get this close? But this isn’t our office at the Traditional Medicine Center. Behave yourself.”
Gemma quickly flicked Joseph between the legs, forcing him to let her go. Even then, she refused to tell him what else she had discussed with Cora.
They ended up staying at the company for lunch.
Afterward, Joseph was summoned to Cora’s office alone. The moment he walked in, Cora’s piercing stare made him feel incredibly uncomfortable.
“Ms. Lowell, if you have something to say, just say it,” he said. “You don’t have to stare at me like that. You’re making me feel like I owe you a massive debt.”
Cora spoke softly. “What happened with Fiona earlier was a misunderstanding. I’ve already reprimanded her. Of course, it did damage your reputation a bit. Do you feel you still need a personal apology from her?”
“I wouldn’t dare. I just ate on your company’s dime. Demanding an apology from her now would make me look completely unreasonable. I do have some basic manners.” Joseph knew Cora was pretending to back down while secretly seizing control of
the conversation.
There was no way she would actually make Fiona apologize. She was fiercely protective of her own people.
Cora opened a drawer, pulling out a hotel key card. Then, she spread ten photographs across her desk. Ten exceptionally young, beautiful women stared back at him, each wearing a revealing bikini that showed off her curves.
Cora smiled. “Tonight, you can choose one of them. Take her to this room and spend the night. You can do whatever you want
with her.”
So these were the women from Maroon Mansion. Cora really was that kind of woman.
Joseph gulped, deliberately putting on a timid expression. “They’re all too beautiful. I don’t think I’m worthy of them.”
“An opportunity like this doesn’t come around twice,” Cora replied. “Pick one.”
Joseph stammered, “I still want Fiona. I think she’s more my type.”
Cora chuckled. “A common problem with people like you is that you don’t know when to quit while you’re ahead. You’ve just let several great opportunities slip through your fingers.”
She gathered up the photographs and the key card.
Joseph laughed along with her. “Did I really miss out? I was just worried I might wake up tomorrow morning and discover I’d

been castrated. Ms. Lowell, I might like women, but I like living a long life even more. There are women everywhere, but I’ve only got one life.”
Cora smirked. “And yet you set your sights on Fiona?”
Joseph shrugged. “Fiona’s a lawyer. She wouldn’t dare break the law, so I at least stand a chance with her. Besides, feelings are unpredictable. Who can say what might happen? Anyway, I just have a thing for her. If you think simply handing her over to me makes things too easy, why not just give me a chance to pursue her instead?”
Cora laughed. “You really do have some lofty ambitions.”
Then, she abruptly changed the subject. “How did you know my husband would go to Jenton University Hospital?”
Joseph leaned back in his chair. “I know someone who works there, and I can get my hands on their surgical schedules. I suspected one of the operating rooms had been prepared specifically for Joseph. But I won’t tell you who my source is. I don’t sell out my friends.
