Chapter 568
With that, Joseph decided to probe Yara’s intentions while simultaneously driving a wedge between Cora and the Zahn family.
Yara sighed. “Skylar and I are both stuck in the hospital. Otherwise, Harold would never have had the chance to get involved. Skylar and I originally started the Provora project. We were the founders. And now? The ones harvesting the fruits of our labor are Harold and Cora. Damn it.”
“You’re so impressive,” Joseph replied smoothly.
Yara shook her head. “Unfortunately, you’re useless. You can’t help me with anything.”
In the end, she didn’t ask Joseph to do anything for her. She made no move to recover the profits that rightfully belonged to her. If she sent Joseph to handle those matters, he wouldn’t be able to stay by her side. Right now, money meant very little to her; all she wanted was to recover.
Joseph thought to himself that the only thing he could actually do for her was send her to her grave.
When Yara waved him off, he left without a word.
Joseph muttered to himself, “So all these years, Cora and Yara have been working together to keep me in the dark. That must be
“Yara, in the past, I knew nothing about your existence. That’s why you were able to do things behind my back. But now, the tables have turned.
“You know nothing about me. You have no idea that I’m right beside you, watching you suffer as you slowly march toward your death.
“This isn’t the life I wanted, but for now, it’s the life I have to live.”
Before finishing his shift, Joseph went to check on Skylar one more time. Everything remained under control.
That night passed uneventfully.
The next morning, Joseph made his rounds before heading to the pharmacy to prepare some medicine for his own use.
After arranging for the medication to be delivered to Beatrice and Alice, he returned to the department office.
Before he even entered, he heard Jenna arguing with someone inside.
A voice demanded. “Why did you flake last night? I told you to go have dinner with Harold. Why didn’t you listen?”
“I was busy,” Jenna replied. “I didn’t have the time.”
The voice snapped back, “What could you possibly be so busy with at the hospital? You could have handed your work over to Gemma. She’s perfectly capable of handling it.”
“I was studying and trying to improve myself,” Jenna said. “Gemma can’t do that for me.”
The other woman scoffed, “You didn’t have time yesterday, but I’m here today. You can take the day off. Go have lunch with Harold.”
Joseph immediately understood what was happening. Someone was trying to force Jenna and Harold together. Judging by the way this woman was speaking, her seniority within the Zahn family was clearly high enough to pressure Jenna.
Didn’t that mean he was about to be cuckolded?
Absolutely not.
Joseph still needed Jenna’s protection, so he had no choice but to step in and help her out. He knocked on the door and pushed it
open.

Jenna and an elderly woman were inside. Joseph immediately recognized her from the surveillance footage. So, this was the so-called old witch.
Her appearance was completely at odds with her age. She looked remarkably young. ANirst glance, Joseph suspected she had somehow used blood transfusions to preserve or regain her youth.
There was also a hint of youthful allure in her features, and her eyes carried a seductive, almost flirtatious quality.
This old woman obviously had no shortage of men.
As that thought crossed his mind, a vicious idea suddenly surfaced. He shot Jenna a’meaningful look, and with his back turned to the old woman, subtly drew a finger across his throat.
Jenna’s eyes widened. She shook her head and scolded, “Why did you enter without permission? Get out! Knock again and come back in properly. Have you forgotten your manners?”
Joseph obediently stepped back out. He quickly prepped several acupuncture needles and concealed them behind his clipboard.
