Chapter 573
When Joseph saw Jenna retos in her coat, he followed her back into the office. Once he had closed the door, he immediately asked, “Have you heard about Harold and Pamela?”
“Oh? They’re already together? That was fast.” Jenna took a sip of water, then had Joseph help her out of her coat so she could change into something more comfortable.
“It’s wise of you to stay out of this mess and quietly focus on improving your medical skills,” Joseph replied. “Who knows? The Zahns might still be questioning your loyalty.”
“I… I just don’t want to fall so far behind you,” Jenna admitted reluctantly.
“Try and catch up, then. I’m rooting for you!” Joseph playfully pumped his fists.
“Screw you!” Jenna rolled her eyes. “You heard about it from Yara, didn’t you?”
“She told me herself. Harold took over her operations, so she obviously resents him for it. That’s why I think she’s telling the
truth.
“I was pretty shocked when she told me they hadn’t just hooked up, but were actually planning to get married. They’re determined to be together. Nothing can tear them apart.”
“Is that poison really that effective?” Jenna wondered if she could use the same poison on Joseph. Then they could get together quickly, right?
However, knowing the love poison carried dangerous side effects, she didn’t quite have the guts to go through with it.
Besides, people should be together for the long haul, not just to satisfy a fleeting physical urge.
“Now that we know what’s going on with them, we have to stay on guard,” Joseph warned. “The medical sect might notice something is off with Pamela and trace it back to you.”
“Help me figure this out. If they summon me back to Emerald Mountain, what do I do?” She grew solemn as they began working out a contingency plan.
The two of them brainstormed, going over every possible question the Zahns might ask and rehearsing her answers.
Things played out exactly as Joseph had predicted. Around 5:00 pm, Jenna received a call from Emerald Mountain. Shortly after, a car arrived to pick her up.
Meanwhile, Joseph realized Cora had sent someone to tail him. He had no choice but to pull a few evasive maneuvers to reach Beatrice’s place unnoticed.
Joseph joined Alice and Beatrice for dinner. While he was resting afterward, he suddenly remembered something and asked Beatrice, “Last time, you mentioned you knew how to do groin therapy. How about I give it a try?”
Beatrice’s face immediately flushed. “What made you bring that up?”
“I’ve been swamped at the hospital all day, so I’m a little worn out. If you aren’t up to it right now, that’s completely fine. And don’t get the wrong idea-I’m not looking for anything inappropriate. I just want to try it out,” Joseph explained. In truth, he
just wanted to test the extent of Beatrice and Alice’s skills.
“I… I’ve studied it before, but I’ve never actually practiced it on anyone. I’m sorry if it isn’t what you expect.” Beatrice didn’t overthink the request and went to get ready.
Worried that Joseph might try to take advantage of the situation, Alice sat nearby to keep a close eye on them. Seeing that he behaved himself and didn’t try anything untoward, she finally relaxed.
Once the session was over, Joseph lit a cigarette and turned to Beatrice. “After you’ve recovered, I can introduce you to a mentor who can teach you medicine. That way, you can make a living while you wait for a suitable eye donor.”

“I’ll do whatever you say. Thank you, Henry.” Hearing that she could make an independent living, Beatrice had no reason to refuse.
“It’s fine either way. Once I’ve recovered, I can take care of her myself,” Alice chimed in.
