“Ms. Natalie mentioned that your fiance has huge fists,” Joseph replied. “Honestly, that really scares me. If I weren’t worried about him, I would’ve asked you to come in person, strip off all your clothes in front of me, and hand them over. I’m certain Ms. Lowell would agree to that.”

He chuckled.

“You pervert!” On the other end of the line, Fiona was so furious she was ready to explode.

Still, this demand had certainly shaken her trust in Cora. Would Cora really hand her over to Joseph just for her own benefit?

This time, it was just her clothes. Next time, he might ask for her.

If Joseph knew Fiona’s view of Cora had changed, he would have been both overjoyed and heartbroken. There was truly nothing Cora wouldn’t sacrifice for her own gain. After all, Cora had sacrificed him for the sake of her own interests too.

Since Jenna hadn’t returned from Emerald Mountain, Gemma was left in charge. That meant Joseph could still wander freely around the department.

“Get him out of here!” Skylar raised his remaining hand and ordered Joseph to leave the room.

“He already joined our medical sect,” Gemma explained. “He’s one of us.”

She couldn’t understand why Skylar had it out for Joseph. Was it because Joseph was getting too close to Yara? Or was it simply because he was too ugly to look at? It was probably a bit of both.

“Mr. Zahn, I may be a nobody, but I know better than to stick my nose where it doesn’t belong. And I definitely know when to keep my mouth shut.” Joseph’s tone became noticeably more deferential.

Skylar looked at Gemma for reassurance.

“Henry can definitely be trusted!” Gemma insisted. “In a few days, I’ll even be taking him to Emerald Mountain to study medicine.”

Even though Gemma was on his side, she still couldn’t help but wonder how anyone could possibly be that hideously ugly.

Skylar dismissed Joseph from his mind and ordered Gemma to examine his prostate. “I don’t feel any urge down there at all,” he complained. “Don’t tell me I can’t get it up anymore. Check and see if everything is still functioning.”

Gemma suddenly felt incredibly awkward. She hadn’t expected Skylar to ask her to do something like that. She would have to stimulate him using her hands or her mouth-with Joseph standing right there.

If she actually followed through with the order, she dreaded to think what Joseph would think of her.

She racked her brain for an excuse to turn Skylar down, but nothing came to mind.

Joseph soon realized that Gemma and Skylar definitely had a thing in the past.

Stepping in, Joseph smoothly explained, “Mr. Zahn, you’ve had a urinary catheter in for days. It’s completely normal to feel numb. Just give it some time, and the sensation will return.”

Gemma quickly latched onto the excuse. “Exactly. You were poisoned not long ago, and it severely affected your nervous system. You should focus on recovering your strength first.”

“We’ll try again later, then.” Skylar wasn’t about to be talked out of it easily. But the mention of poisoning caught his attention.
