A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 577

Chapter 577

After finishing his shift, Joseph drove toward Jenna’s place. He realized he was being followed the moment he left the hospital, but he was in no rush to shake his táil.

Instead, he turned onto a quiet side road and pulled over. It didn’t take long for his pursuers to catch up and block his path.

There were three of them, led by Fiona and Andrew The third was a burly, bearded man who looked like heavy muscle.

Joseph knew instantly that Fiona had brought the man along purely for intimidation.

Andrew pounded aggressively on the car door, shouting for Joseph to get out as he yanked on the handle like he was trying to rip it off.

Joseph rolled down the window and looked at Fiona. “You’re a lawyer. Don’t you know you could be charged with disturbing the peace for this?”

“You’re just a perverted loser. Don’t lecture me about the law,” Fiona snapped. “If you actually followed it, you wouldn’t have asked me to do something so vile. You knew I didn’t have enough evidence to charge you with harassment, which means you have nothing to charge me with for a disturbance, either.”

“Are you trying to settle this with your fists?” Joseph asked coolly.

“Exactly. Why would I even try to reason with someone like you? I’m just here to prove that I’m not someone you can mess with!

“Well, I’m no pushover, either!” Joseph flashed a grin and honked his horn twice.

Two motorcycles suddenly roared up from behind, each carrying a passenger armed with a club. As they sped past Andrew, one struck him in the head while the other clipped his leg.

Though the injuries weren’t life-threatening, Andrew dropped to the ground in excruciating pain.

Joseph pulled out his phone and snapped a picture of the burly man. “Buddy, we didn’t have any beef before tonight, but coming after me is crossing a line.

“Still, I’m a reasonable man. I’ll give you one chance. Leave Jenton tonight. Otherwise, don’t blame me if you wake up missing a limb tomorrow. A paycheck is nice, but what good is it if you’re dead?”

The bikers’ sudden ambush had already rattled the hired muscle. He turned to Fiona. “Andrew didn’t tell me this was what I was getting into. This is above my pay grade. I’m out.”

With that, the burly man turned and walked away, leaving them behind.

Joseph looked at Fiona with a mocking smirk. “This was supposed to be between you and me. Why drag outside muscle into it?”

Fiona’s expression darkened. She glared at Joseph, seething with impotent rage.

“I may not officially be a Zahn yet,” Joseph continued casually, “but I’m already part of the medical sect. For all intents and purposes, I’m one of them now.

“You’re just Cora’s lawyer. Do you really think you’re on my level? All I want is to have a little fun with you, and you think I’m reaching above my station? You might look down on me today, but tomorrow, I might just be the one out of your league.”

Fiona remained stubbornly silent, so Joseph pressed on. “You’re a lawyer. You’ve stood by Cora’s side all this time, but clearly, you aren’t as sharp as you think you are.

“You don’t even know your own client. She had three daughters with Skylar Zahn. That alone should tell you she knows exactly how to get what she wants and won’t hesitate to do whatever it takes to get there. To her, you’re completely expendable. She’ll drop you the second she doesn’t need you anymore.”
