Chapter 581
“I’m not sure what happened either. I just got a call from the higher-ups in the medical sect telling me to prepare for Jenna’s arrival. We’ll have to ask her directly what went down.”
Gemma looked grim, clearly in the dark as well.
Joseph didn’t press further, but a heavy knot formed in his chest. Jenna had undoubtedly been beaten because of him.
If she had sold him out earlier, the Zahn medical sect would have hunted him down and left her alone. Of course, they might have branded her a traitor and punished her severely anyway.
He was becoming increasingly indebted to her. Joseph forced himself to swallow the conflicting emotions rising in his throat.
It wasn’t long before Jenna was wheeled into the hospital. At first glance, she was unconscious, her face badly bruised and
swollen.
Joseph and the others rushed her straight to the emergency room.
After a thorough examination, Joseph determined she only had external soft-tissue injuries and had likely lost consciousness from hitting her head. There was no internal bleeding, and she hadn’t been assaulted.
Joseph let out a quiet sigh of relief. He stayed by her side until 10:00 pm, and when he felt the time was right, he gently coaxed
her awake.
“Jo… Joseph, I’m fine,” Jenna murmured, her eyes darting around to make sure they were completely alone before she used his
real name.
“I know you’re fine, but who did this to you?” Joseph felt a sudden pang in his chest. There was an undeniable devotion in the way Jenna looked at him, and he still couldn’t wrap his head around, how she had fallen for him.
“It was Harold! Mr. Zahn Senior and the elders wanted to give him one last chance to redeem himself, so they tried to force him into an arranged marriage with me to make him give up on Pamela.
“But Harold completely lost his mind and went berserk. Not only did he hit me, but he started attacking anyone who got within ten feet of him. The only person who could calm him down was Pamela. It was genuinely terrifying to see him like that.” Jenna still looked deeply shaken.
“Looks like they had feelings for each other all along. The love poison only made their bond stronger. We helped them make things official. That’s a good thing!” Joseph let out a chuckle.
He fell silent for a moment, marveling at how seamlessly the love poison and the chastity seal complemented each other. For a fleeting second, the thought crossed his mind to use it on Cora, ensuring she would be hopelessly devoted to him and him alone.
Immediately, the urge vanished. He wouldn’t touch Cora with a ten-foot pole; the thought of sleeping with her now made his
stomach turn.
Joseph thought of using it on Yara instead. He could use it on her just to rub it in Skylar’s face.
Skylar liked to play around with Cora behind his back, didn’t he? Joseph could return the favor with Yara.
Ultimately, he decided against it. Skylar and Yara had humiliated him and tormented him. He wanted to watch them meet their downfall, lose everything they held dear, and suffer slow, agonizing defeats. Only at the very end would they learn the truth and die choking on their own resentment.
Joseph mulled over a few more matters before casually tossing a few more questions Jenna’s way. When he found nothing out of place, he let her rest.
Joseph stayed within the department for a while longer. Later that night, however, his phone rang. It was Fiona, telling him to meet in the parking lot.

Sporting Flotta sitting alone in her car, he didn’t hesitate to pull open the door and slide into the passenger seat. There were no surveillance cameras down here, making it a safe place to talk.
