Chapter 582
Joseph knew Fiona far too well. Her current show of weakness was nothing more than an attempt to turn the tables. With her professional expertise, she could easily destroy his current identity.
When it came to her, he couldn’t afford to let her take the initiative. He had to lead her exactly where he wanted her to go. What worried Joseph even more was Fiona’s loyalty to Cora. That was why Joseph paid close attention to every unusual thing
Fiona did.
Joseph’s goal was to create a crack in the trust between Cora and Fiona. Ideally, he wanted Fiona to betray Cora and let Cora experience what it felt like to be betrayed.
Joseph got out of the car and watched Fiona leave before turning back toward the department. Suddenly, he spotted Kaya secretly making a phone call, speaking in hushed tones.
Kaya’s voice was soft, but Joseph could hear every word. The person on the other end of the line was asking her to do it again, but she said it was too risky. That reminded him that she had been one of the suspects who had poisoned Skylar the last time.
Although Kaya had passed the hospital’s investigation, Joseph’s suspicions about her had never completely disappeared.
Joseph thought about Skylar being transferred out of the ICU. To everyone watching, that move signaled that Skylar was on his way to recovery. Obviously, whoever had wanted Skylar dead wouldn’t be happy about that.
If Joseph were in their position, he would find a way to make another attempt on Skylar’s life too. In the end, Kaya agreed to do it.
Joseph quietly slipped away and returned to the ward to spend some time with Jenna. The next day, she woke up and was recovering well.
After finishing her medication, Jenna was discharged that afternoon and went home. Gemma and Joseph stayed behind to take care of her, so neither of them went to the hospital.
For the next two days, Joseph would stop by the hospital just to clock in before going to Jenna’s place to care for and treat her. Other than some bruising on her skin, she was no longer experiencing any pain.
When Gemma came over after work and saw Jenna moving around normally without any stiffness or hesitation, she was astonished. She couldn’t understand how the latter had recovered so quickly.
Jenna attributed it to having a strong body. In reality, though, she was still quite weak and needed to continue resting, she didn’t tell Gemma that Joseph was the reason for her rapid recovery.
His acupuncture treatment had helped clear the bruising and improve the circulation through her nerves. The results had been effective. It was only then that she realized just how far behind him she was.
Whether it was medicine or poisons, losing to Joseph was the most natural and reasonable outcome.
This time, Jenna stayed home to rest while Joseph and Gemma went to the hospital. When they made their rounds and reached Skylar’s room, they heard that he had thrown a fit. The only hand he could still move had struck a nurse.
The reason was that the nurse had refused to perform a test on his prostate function.
Joseph thought, “You can barely take care of yourself, and you still want to prove you’re a man? Keep dreaming.”
Joseph had already tampered with Skylar’s condition while Skylar was unconscious. Joseph made sure that Skylar would no longer be able to throw his weight around. In that way, Skylar would never be able to get close to Cora again.
Skylar could look at Cora’s beauty, but he would never be able to have a relationship with her or father another child with her And the other women in his life, like Gemma and Madeline, would be no different. He could only look at them from atar, left with nothing but frustration.
