A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 583

Chapter 583

The Zahn family could have enjoyed wealth and prosperity for generations, but they had brought plenty of trouble upon themselves. Their practice of exchange transfusion was already a violation of basic morality. Then, Skylar went after Cora, which was more than what Joseph could tolerate.

Cora was no different. She had failed in her duties as a wife. She fooled around with other men behind Joseph’s back, and even deceived him into raising three children who weren’t his. That pushed hith even further past his breaking point.

For all these reasons, Joseph had no intention of letting Cora and Skylar off the hook. He had used his medical skills to manipulate their conditions. He didn’t need to interfere constantly. For now, all he had to do was sit back and watch the show.

Gemma’s face flushed with embarrassment. There was even a trace of resentment toward Skylar. He had brought up her humiliating past right in front of Joseph. What was the latter supposed to think of her now?

Gemma said, “Skylar, you’re still recovering. Why are you so fixated on your personal desires? Dofr’t you want to get better? Your body has been severely weakened, and you need time to recover. You were in good health to begin with, so why rush things?

“Even if medication or some other method could get you back to normal, you would just be draining yourself dry. Do you want a moment of pleasure now, or do you want to stay healthy in the long run?”

Gemma said everything she could to convince Skylar to think about his health, hoping he would stop asking her to help him with his personal desires.

However, Skylar refused to listen. He replied, “No. If I know I can’t do it, I’ll be miserable.”

Upon seeing that, Gemma turned to Joseph with a pleading look. He understood immediately and said, “Mr. Zahn, why don’t you try another time? Ms. Zahn has been saying she wants to come over. Her IV drip should be finished in a few minutes, so she might already be on her way.”

“Gemma, come over and give it a try tonight,” instructed Skylar without looking at Joseph.

Gemma reluctantly agreed. She had no interest in helping Skylar with this, but there wasn’t much else she could do.

His test results hadn’t improved, but they hadn’t deteriorated either. So, she didn’t interfere with the attending physician’s treatment plan. After performing a routine examination, she left the ward with Joseph.

On their way out, they ran into Yara, who was walking over. Gemma told Yara that they had an urgent patient to attend to and let Yara go on ahead.

Once they returned to the office, Gemma immediately turned to Joseph for help. She said, “Skylar’s request is completely unreasonable. I can’t do that. What am I supposed to do?”

Joseph answered, “I think he’s just anxious. He woke up and naturally assumed everything was back to normal, but he isn’t out of danger yet. How about this? Have the attending physician add a little sedative to his afternoon medication and let him sleep through it.”

“Alright. Let’s do that,” responded Gemma immediately, about to find the attending physician. Atter thinking it over, she decided to give the attending physician a call instead and have him come to her office.

Once Gemma ended the call, she stated, “What happened between Skylar and me was all in the past. It was before I went overseas. Back then, I was like Jenna. I didn’t have a choice. I was forced into it.”

Joseph replied, telling Gemma that he could do nothing but accept his fate, “Gemma, you don’t have to explain. I understand. Even if you and Mr. Zahn were to do something together right in front of me now, all I’ll be able to do is stand there and watch.

“I wouldn’t dare to complain or object. I would probably even cheer you on. At most, I could ask him not to be too rough on you. ”

“What are you even saying? I’m not that kind of person!” Gemma smiled shyly. She thought that Henry truly said whatever
