Chapter 585

Lexi found the sight of Yara hanging out with Joseph incredibly interesting. She couldn’t help wondering how someone like Yara, who came from a wealthy family with notoriously high standards, could possibly choose someone as ugly as Joseph. There had to be something about him that set him apart.
Lexi’s family had originally been putting constant pressure on the Zahin family, trying to carve off a sizable piece of their
business.
However, after learning that Joseph had been the one stirring up trouble between them, Lexi stopped targeting the Zahn family and focused on consolidating the gains her family had already made.
“Peyton, I heard you’ve opened another nightclub and gotten into real estate. You’re making money everywhere you can and making plenty of it. Congratulations!” Yara praised.
Yara had no desire to deal with Lexi or Peyton, but there was no way around it.
Joseph knew everything that happened. The last time several of Peyton’s men had been killed, she hadn’t been frightened into backing down. Instead, she had sent even more people over.
The best places to keep all those people were nightlife establishments, security companies, transportation businesses, and
others.
Nevertheless, Joseph’s partnership with Peyton was already over. She had treated her family members and served as their private doctor, while they had helped him track down the biological fathers of his daughters.
Now, he had confirmed the identity of his daughters’ biological father. He had even managed to get Skylar into the hospital, right under his nose.
Joseph had had countless opportunities to kill Skylar, yet Joseph wanted Skylar and Cora to apologize to him first. Then, he wanted them to suffer before they died.
As far as Joseph was concerned, Peyton and the others were nothing more than people outside his own world. They had nothing to do with him anymore.
Peyton smiled. “It’s all thanks to the support of our friends. Otherwise, where would I have gotten opportunities like these? Since you’re out of the hospital, we should get together and celebrate. I’ll call Cora and have her come over.”
Yara glanced at Joseph. He gave her a nod, and she agreed. It was only then that Peyton took notice of Joseph. She couldn’t help but wonder why someone as proud as Yara bothered to ask Joseph for his opinion. What was their relationship?
Peyton led Yara into a private room and gave Cora a call, asking the latter to come over. They chatted for a while, and before long, Cora arrived.
Joseph saw that Cora was still breathtakingly beautiful as ever. The moment she entered, she went straight to the seat at the head of the table. Her presence was commanding the entire room.
Joseph’s gaze drifted away as he mused with cold irony that Cora seemed to be enjoying her position for now, though he wondered where she would end up once her family collapsed into bankruptcy and she was left with nothing.
A few minutes later, Joseph saw Natalie push the door open. One look at her reluctant expression was enough for him to understand. Cora was probably afraid that Natalie would sneak off to see Skylar again, so Cora had deliberately brought Natalie along.
Of course, there was another reason as well. Cora wanted Natalie to start participating in some of the family’s affairs so that Natalie could learn how society actually worked.
Natalie had to understand how difficult it was to make money, learn to survive and establish herself, as well as become a capable successor in the future. Cora had certainly put a great deal of thought into raising Natalie.

Natalie didn’t sit beside Cora. Instead, she walked over to Joseph. She kicked him under the table. Then, she leaned toward him and whispered, “Keep Mom occupied for me. I want to leave.”
