Chapter 587
“Your analysis makes sense, but where is Joseph now? I have a feeling Cora isn’t really trying that hard to find him. Now that Mr. Zahn is sick and hospitalized, will she have something else in mind?” Joseph asked.
Yara questioned, “What could she be thinking?”
Joseph replied, “She could deny having a relationship with Mr. Zahn and maintain her marriage to Joseph. Then, she could take her three daughters with her. Besides, she’s the richest person in Jenton. She would be free and powerful.”
“Free and powerful? In her dreams! Jenton will always belong to the Zahn family. Henry, don’t let Cora’s beauty cloud your judgment. She’s 40 years old and already has three children. What’s so special about a woman like that?” Yara warned.
Joseph laughed cheekily. “Do you think I’m that easily dazzled? Cora is Mr. Zahn’s woman, which makes her your sister-in-law. Even if you gave me ten thousand lives, I wouldn’t dare touch his woman.”
“What about me? Would you dare to touch me?” Yara asked.
Joseph responded, “Of course, not! But if you need my help, I’ll do whatever I can for you.”
“From the way I see it, you’ve got plenty of nerve,” teased Yara. Joseph might be ugly, but he was bold.
Just then, Yara thought of something. With a sly smile, she said, “If you’re really that bold, why don’t you try to seduce Cora? You would probably have a pretty good chance.”
Joseph questioned, “What do you mean by that?”
Yara answered, “She’s never been a respectable woman. Joseph isn’t the only man she has been involved with.”
Joseph secretly sneered. “It sounds like there’s a story behind that. Tell me.”
Joseph thought, “Cora, look at the mess you’ve made. You managed to keep me in the dark, but you can’t hide everything from people with deeper connections than yours.”
Yara responded, “If Maroon Mansion hadn’t burned down, I would have taken you there and let you play with the women inside. Cora had a private room there. She entertained clients there too,”
“Seriously? I never would have imagined she was that kind of woman,” exclaimed Joseph.
Joseph knew what kind of establishment Maroon Mansion had been. Cora’had secretly been the person in charge of that place. She could come and go as she pleased.
So, there was a possibility that she participated in some of its activities. After all, the men who could afford to enter Maroon Mansion were all wealthy and powerful.
For the sake of the Lowell family’s expansion, projects, and profits, it wasn’t impossible that Cora had made compromises in exchange for business deals.
Cora was even willing to entertain a man like Warren. Clearly, she wasn’t picky at all. At that thought, Joseph felt as though a thousand knives had pierced his heart.
Granted, Yara’s words couldn’t be taken as absolute truth. However, such rumors didn’t just appear out of nowhere. There were far too many things Cora had hidden from Joseph.
“Do you really think she’s a good woman? She isn’t!” Yara exclaimed.
Joseph smiled. “That came from you. I wouldn’t dare to say anything like that myself. I’m afraid Mr. Zahn would come after me with a knife.”
Yara responded, “I’ll protect you. What are you afraid of? Besides, Skylar isn’t doing much better than I am right now. He has important things to worry about. Someone as insignificant as you wouldn’t be worth his attention.”
