Beside them, Yelena couldn’t help but shudder when she heard that Joseph had been sterilized. She was furious as well. She had always wanted children, but her husband was infertile. She had even set her sights on Joseph, entertaining the bold idea of using him to get pregnant.

She had actually mentioned the idea to her husband before. As long as they kept it a secret, no one would ever suspect a thing.

Of course, her husband had refused. He wasn’t opposed to the idea itself, but rather to Joseph being the candidate. He wanted Yelena to choose someone from the Cooper family instead. As long as it was a relative, the child would at least still carry the Cooper family’s bloodline.

“Joseph, you’re a doctor. Can’t you treat yourself? I refuse to believe this so-called sterilization is something you can’t fix. You have to pull yourself together!” Yelena comforted him, crouching down and wrapping her arms

around him.

Joseph said, “I haven’t been defeated. I just can’t believe Yara and the others actually did something like this to me. Even Cora might have been involved. I’ve been blind for so many years. What a fool I am. How did I end up like this? Who exactly did I offend?”

Yelena sighed. “Yes. When will fate stop toying with us? I think fate has treated you terribly, but we can’t lose the courage to live. We can’t allow ourselves to become weak. We have to believe there’s a better future waiting for us.

As she spoke, she kissed Joseph on the cheek. Her hands even began to wander, wanting to soothe his wounded heart with her touch. More than that, she wanted to use herself to prove that Joseph wasn’t actually impotent.

However, Joseph remained clear-headed and stopped her in time. He said, “Let’s not complicate our relationship with this.”

Yelena replied, “Joseph, I’m doing this willingly. You don’t have to take responsibility for me…”

Joseph shook his head. “I understand, but I don’t think this is the time or place. If we’re meant to be, then someday we’ll continue what we didn’t finish today.”

Joseph stood up and went out onto the deck, letting the sea breeze cool the heat building inside him.

Yelena followed him. “Joseph, I’m sorry about what I just did. I admit I had ulterior motives, but I also wanted to

He interrupted her. “Don’t say it. If we’re destined to be together, then whatever is meant to happen between us will happen. I won’t refuse you then. For now, we’re still partners who trust each other more than anyone else. Don’t ruin that trust.”

Yelena nodded. “Okay. You’ll always be able to trust me.”
