Joseph quickly ended the call. He still wanted to keep his identity hidden, so he had no intention of giving the Roths any clues that could lead them right back to him. He had no desire to cause trouble, but he still had to stay on his guard.

In the afternoon, he prepared some medicine for a warm compress and went to treat Yara. Once she was asleep, he could tell Beth had something on her mind, so he motioned for her to go ahead.

To his surprise, Beth asked if Joseph was aware of certain marriage customs involving young women from wealthy families in the olden days. For instance, the young woman might send her personal attendant to spend the night with the groom to see if he knew what he was doing. If he didn’t, the attendant would have to teach him.

Joseph understood immediately. “Are you saying Yara might get someone to teach me what to do in bed?”

“If you need that, Ms. Zahn will arrange for it.” Beth almost blurted out that she could teach him herself.

“Ha! She really thinks I don’t know what I’m doing, huh? She’s the one who needs the lessons!”

Joseph didn’t know exactly what Yara was up to, so he turned down the offer for now. If she insisted on going through with it and he couldn’t exactly say no, he would just have to deal with it when the time came.

The treatment went well. Once it was over, the dark discoloration on her feet had visibly faded. Overjoyed and grateful, she kissed him deeply.

Once night fell, Joseph left the Traditional Medicine Center, but he didn’t go to Katie’s clinic because some of Cora’s people were already waiting there. If he showed up, he would walk right into her trap.

Instead, he went to see Beatrice and had her give him a massage. He really enjoyed the groin therapy, which left him feeling completely relaxed.

In the wee hours of the morning, Joseph disguised himself before making his way into Jenton University Hospital. He managed to slip into Helen’s room without being noticed.

The rash on Helen’s face had started to ulcerate. Since it had become incredibly itchy, the doctors had given her a mild sedative.

Even though she was fast asleep, Joseph easily woke her and whispered, “Helen, I’ll send you to Katie’s clinic for treatment, but don’t tell Cora. She betrayed me, so I don’t want to see her.”

“Joseph, is that you?” Helen saw that the man was wearing a mask, and his hair was slightly long. Even though he didn’t look like Joseph, there was no mistaking that voice.

“Do you want me to treat you? If not, I’m leaving.” Joseph used a cotton swab to examine the rashes on Helen’s face.

He was a little surprised to see how quickly the rashes had worsened, but he had a good idea why. The doctors there probably hadn’t followed the treatment plan he and Jenna had provided. Helen was also under a lot of stress; the more anxious she became, the worse her rash got.

“Don’t go! I can’t let anyone see me like this. Just treat me already! I’m so fed up with this.”

“So you trust me? Aren’t you afraid I might hurt you?”

“That’s what I thought! Once you’ve recovered, I want you to talk some sense into Cora and get her to divorce me. None of those kids are mine, and she’s been involved with other men too! And she still won’t agree to a divorce? That’s just not right.”

“Joseph, I’ll speak to Cora about this. If you want a divorce, you have my support. But Cora already told me everything. She may have gotten close to other men, but she never actually slept with them.”

“Helen, do you really think women always tell the truth? If you were in her shoes and had an affair, would you admit it to Bernard? Would you ever say anything that could make you look bad?”
