Chapter 652
The man was a senior member of the Zahris’ finance team.
Joseph asked, “That’s not a good idea, is it? Yara still needs money for her treatment and living expenses.”
“That won’t be a problem. The family will cover all of her medical expenses during this time. Her standard of living won’t be affected too,” the man explained.
“I won’t sign it! I’m going to get better, and I know Skylar can too,” Yara said.
“Ms. Zahn, do you really have to do this? The elders sent me here. I’m only here to inform you of their decision. I’m not in the position to negotiate with you.”
“Hold up! Given what she’s going through, she’s under a lot of emotional strain. You might be just the messenger, but you should still give her time to accept their decision.
“I know your family has rules, but Mr. Zahn Senior shouldn’t be putting this kind of pressure on someone who’s critically ill. After all, this came out of nowhere.”
“Alright then. I’ll give you a little more time, but it won’t be long. I’ll go see the others first. I hope you won’t make things difficult for me later,” the man said as he set the agreement down.
Joseph quickly asked, “Others? So you’re not just coming after us?”
Something seemed to occur to Yara as she looked at the man. She asked, “Did we lose the Provora project?”
“We did. Over the past two days, the Lowells and the other families have joined forces to drive us out. They’re going to split the project between them.
“And that’s not it. Evercrest Industrial and several of our other core businesses are under pressure too. Mr. Zahn Senior wants everyone to pool their money. As long as we have money, we still have a chance to fight back.
“Ms. Zahn, we need to stick together and get through this. As long as the family’s still standing, we can rebuild and rise again.”
“You’re right. Let’s exchange numbers so we can keep in touch.”
After seeing the man off, Joseph had his informant keep tabs on him. Once he was back in the hospital room, he asked, “Do you really plan on giving up everything you have?”
Yara said helplessly, “If that’s what Mr. Zahn Senior wants, then we’ll have to do as he says and sign it. What else can I even do?”
Joseph stepped forward and tore the agreement to shreds, exclaiming, “Like hell you’re signing that! Yara, that money right there is ours-yours and mine!
“I’m not just going to hand it over. If we don’t have money, what do we even have to look forward to? Just look at me. Without money, I’d be lucky to have a place under the bridge!
“And now that old geezer wants my money? He might as well kill me!”
“Henry, please calm down. This isn’t just about you.”
“Yara, you’re such a fool. Look at you now. If you can’t fully recover, the Zahns will be the first to abandon you.
“And now they’re trying to take away your assets. How much can you even rely on them?”
“But if I don’t do as Mr. Zahn Senior says, he won’t let me off easy.”
“But if you marry me, you’ll be my wife. I’ll protect you. What can you even expect from an old man who depends on his descendants for blood?”
“Henry, don’t get yourself all worked up. Calm down.”
