At Jenton University, there was a female professor in her 50s and a young female chemistry PhD student in her 30s. Both of them were Skylar’s lovers.

Joseph even went to see the two of them personally. He told them that Skylar had been seriously injured and was gravely ill, and that he would no longer be able to provide them with money. He advised them to leave that life behind and turn over a new leaf.

Then, he gave Belinda a second test. He asked her to find a way to get Lexi drunk and bring her to his bed.

“Joseph, you…” Paula and Katie were both stunned. They couldn’t understand why Joseph would make such a vulgar request.

Joseph replied, “Don’t worry. I’m not that kind of person. I’m just teaching Lexi a lesson. Since she insists on causing trouble, I’ll make sure she regrets refusing to behave and not leaving Jenton.”

Joseph checked the time and saw that it was already noon, so he went to lunch with the two women. After they parted ways, he disguised himself again and returned to the Traditional Medicine Center.

After watching Joseph leave, Paula and Katie got into the car and headed back to the clinic.

In the car, Paula said, “Joseph comes and goes so freely without worrying about being discovered. It seems like he isn’t actually hiding. He simply doesn’t want to see Cora. I was honestly afraid he’d hide himself away in some monastery. If he just disappears, no one would know how to find him.”

Katie replied, “Joseph isn’t some wanted criminal. He has no reason to hide. He just doesn’t want to be disturbed. In a way, we’re keeping him safe by not knowing where he is. Cora is aggressively looking for him and determined to force him back home.”

Paula shook her head. “Cora? She certainly has the ability to do that. But she’s got plenty of other things to deal with right now. The Lowell family is splitting apart, and a lot of their projects are going to run into trouble.”

Katie scoffed. “That was just inevitable. She’s just too forceful. The only reason she could get away with it before was that Joseph was gentle and willing to put up with her. But now that Joseph knows he was deceived, he has too much pride and self-respect to compromise with her.”

Paula asked, “So what do you think is better for us women? Should we be assertive, or should we be more accommodating toward our husbands?”

Katie replied, “There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches. It all depends on the person and what they choose. If I could be with Joseph, I’d listen to everything he said. I wouldn’t be so forceful and give him the respect he deserves.”

Paula continued, “Do you like Joseph?”

“Yes, I like him. I like all that he has experienced, his abilities, and even his appearance. Of course, I know he might not choose me in the future. But I still like him,” Katie said as she eyed Paula.

Paula was married, so Katie assumed she wouldn’t have feelings for Joseph. As for Belinda, there was a chance she

Paula’s expression tightened slightly. She understood that Katie’s sudden confession was targeted at her. Katie was obviously drawing a tine, making it clear that Belinda and Paula shouldn’t compete with her for Joseph.

She said softly, “Once bitten, twice shy Joseph had such a terrible experience with Cora that he might not want to get married again. The fact that he’s been constantly going to monasteries recently probably reflects his state of mind.”
