Chapter 671
Yara was worried that Skylar might do something to Joseph. So, she instructed the medical staff to keep an eye on things and to ask Joseph to corne back as soon as he could.
When she saw that Joseph had returned unharmed, she knew she had been worrying freedlessly. Skylar was barely able to function properly himself, so how could he possibly hurt Joseph?
She asked, “Did Skylar do anything to you?”
Joseph placed his hand over her chest and said, “I discussed two things with him.”
Yara immediately felt something stir inside her. Two things? Could it really be that much of a coincidence?
Joseph continued, “First, I asked him to hand over his subordinates for me to manage, but he refused. He wants to keep them for when he gets out and use them to rebuild his career. Can you mobilize Skylar’s people?”
Yara shook her head. “No. Honestly, he doesn’t even have that many subordinates anymore. The Zahn family has rules. No one is allowed to cultivate a private force beyond a certain size. Otherwise, it would grow beyond their control and undermine the family’s authority.
“Besides, recruiting people requires a huge investment. Fair-weather friends aren’t useful no matter how many you have. If you want to accomplish anything, you’d have to rely on people you’ve nurtured yourself.”
Joseph nodded and said, “Second, I asked him about Cora. From what I could tell, he’s conflicted. He seems willing to let me have some fun with her, but he’s not entirely sure.”
Yara was a little unhappy to hear that. “All you men are so disgusting.”
She tried to push Joseph’s hand away, but she was too weak.
Joseph said, “Do you think I’m stupid? Cora’s older and has already had three children. She’s used goods. Do you think I can’t tell which of you treats me better? Comparing you to her is already an insult to you.
“Yara, I was only testing whether Skylar truly trusted me. As it turns out, he doesn’t. In this world, you’re the only person who truly trusts me.”
Yara nodded. “Good. At least you know that.”
Yara was satisfied with Joseph’s attitude and the consistency between his words and actions.
Someone came in to inform them that Fiona had arrived. Joseph told Yara to concentrate on her treatment before heading to his office.
He got straight to the point. “Did Ms. Lowell send you here because she agreed to my request and wants you to bear my child?”
Fiona found Joseph’s attitude extremely distasteful. She sneered and said, “You’ve only just gotten your new position, and you’re already so full of yourself. Aren’t you afraid someone will report you for misconduct?”
Joseph replied, “Would you choose to reveal what happened between us? If you won’t, who would know? Plenty of people can make accusations, but without evidence, it’s just slander. If that happens, would you defend me in court?”
Fiona realized that Joseph genuinely feared nothing. That ugly man really did have no shame.

With a face like this, apparently he didn’t care how much worse his reputation could get.
“I want to send you to prisen,” she said.
“Likewise.” Joseph smiled mischievously.
That pervert.
Fiona knew exactly what Joseph wanted. He wanted to impregnate her, that fiend.
She said, “Let’s get back to business. Ms. Lowell would like to invite you to dinner and repair the relationship between you.”
Joseph said, “Isn’t that basically a trap? Sorry, but I’ll pass. I’m still furious that she threatened yesterday to make sure I won’t see the sun rise today. I’m the Zahn family’s son-in-law. Threatening me is the same as threatening the Zahn family. I might be able to tolerate it, but my family certainly won’t.”
Fiona asked, “Is that why you’re so confident?”
Joseph retorted, “Isn’t that a good reason to be confident?”
Fiona sneered and silently mouthed that he was a bastard.
