She said, “I want to see Joseph. Contact him immediately and have him come see me.”

Katie said in exasperation, “Why are you doing this again? Joseph isn’t here. You know perfectly well that he’s not here! Seriously…”

She left Joseph another message on the forum, then stared unhappily at Cora. “If you’re determined to wait for him, then wait here.”

Cora waited an entire day. When Joseph still didn’t respond, she contacted Yelena.

Yelena had temporarily withdrawn from Jenton and was currently walking her dog around her husband’s family’s sprawling estate. When she received Cora’s video call, Yelena handed her beloved dog over to a housekeeper and walked into a nearby pavilion.

Yelena said, “I heard the Lowell family is having an internal power struggle. You should just establish yourself independently. Why don’t you start the Hart Group?”

Cora replied, “Joseph is already dead. Why are you still bringing him up?”

Yelena chuckled. “You’ve been telling everyone he’s dead. If he really is, that wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing for you. He just joined a monastery. To you, he’s basically as good as dead.”

Cora asked, “What do I have to do for you to get him to come back?”

Yelena sighed. “I can’t order him around. My grandmother and several other elders depend on his medical skills. He’s practically someone our families have to rely on.”

Cora frowned. “But I have sick people on my side, too. Why won’t he come back and treat them?”

Yelena replied, “A doctor doesn’t knock on someone’s door asking to be needed. You expect him to come back and treat your family, but you’re too prideful. In his eyes, you’re Skylar’s woman. He doesn’t think you’re worthy of his treatment.”

Cora retorted, “I’m not! I’m his. My children are his too. Why won’t he believe me?”
