Joseph said, “Look at you. You’re already exhausted from just this much movement. If we actually did it, you’d be even more exhausted. I can’t bring myself to put you through that.”
Joseph had only teased and stimulated Yara a little, yet it was enough to leave her completely drained. Her
physical condition was still poor. After all, recovery from à serious illness took time.
Of course, another reason was that Joseph simply didn’t want to sleep with her. He wanted to slowly torment Her,, making her pay for what she had done to him in the past.
Yara asked, “What are you going to do, then?”
Joseph smiled. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine after a while.”
Joseph was still a man, after all, and he didn’t deliberately suppress his physical reaction. But in the end, he restrained himself and didn’t give in.
“When I’m better, I’ll make it up to you. You’ll be thoroughly pleased.” Yara felt deeply apologetic. She was a woman, yet she couldn’t satisfy the man she loved. Of course, the fact that Joseph didn’t force her or hurt her only touched her even more.
This man was ugly, but he was gentle. She was completely captivated by him.
She curled herself into Joseph’s arms like a docile kitten.
Joseph remained at the villa, spending part of his time accompanying Yara and the rest in the study.
Two days later, a dispute broke out at the Traditional Medicine Center. Something had gone wrong with a patient’s treatment, and the patient’s family attacked a doctor.
The doctor was someone the medical sect had assigned to the hospital. When he was attacked, Joseph’s trusted subordinates didn’t intervene immediately. They only stepped in to separate the two sides after the doctor had already taken a considerable beating.
This wasn’t the first time something like this happened, and it wouldn’t be the last.
At 10:00 pm, Cora left the villa and drove to the airport to pick someone up.
The Dixon family from Larkton had chartered a private plane and arrived with nearly 30 people.
The Lowell family’s motorcade drove directly onto the tarmac to collect them, and everything went smoothly along the way.
But when they entered a ring road, something happened. A small car ahead of their convoy suddenly had someone throw bags filled with paint and ink through its sunroof. They landed on the windshield of the lead vehicle.
The driver lost visibility and could only keep the vehicle going for a moment before being forced to slow down. The vehicles behind followed suit.
But a large truck behind them didn’t slow down. Instead, it accelerated and crashed right into the convoy. Cora and Jayden’s vehicle was positioned toward the middle of the convoy. Fortunately, the vehicle was heavily built, and neither of them was injured. Even so, the incident left them badly shaken.
“Do you really think this kind of low-class trick is enough to scare me? What a joke!” Jayden was furious when he saw that some of his men had been injured, but most were still fine. He looked down on whoever had resorted to such underhanded tactics.

He had seen plenty in his time, so he wasn’t going to be intimidated so easily.
But right as he stepped out of the vehicle, something unexpected happened again.
A truck was parked on the shoulder of the opposite side of the road. A drone suddenly launched from it, flying directly toward them before dumping a load of filthy wastewater right over them.
Cora reacted quickly and slammed the door shut just in time, narrowly avoiding getting drenched herself. Her bodyguards, however, weren’t so lucky.

Jayden was left in an utterly miserable state and seethed with rage.
After they arrived at a guesthouse to wash up, they soon became weak and collapsed to the floor. In the remaining moments of consciousness, they could see several people wearing gas masks entering the room, carrying clubs to, break their limbs.
By the time Cora learned what had happened, Jayden and the others had already been loaded into ambulances.
