Chapter 682

However, none of that mattered to Joseph. He just needed to achieve his goal of getting revenge on Cora.

Cora immediately called Yelena and confronted her. “Is Joe really a monk now?”

Yelena replied, “He shaved his head and had his head marked with the ritual scars. He spends every day chanting. and studying. He even has some kind of special name now. Do you think he isn’t a monk? Cora, stop thinking about him.”

Cora asked, “Are you sure he isn’t still in Jenton?”

Yelena answered, “Stop fishing for information from me. I can’t betray him. Just know that he has become a monk

Cora questioned, “Were the people who attacked Jayden and me last night your people?”

Yelena responded, “My people have already left Jenton. Don’t you know that? You were attacked?”

Cora pressed on, “Yelena, was it really not you?”

Yelena replied, “I genuinely know nothing about this. If you suspect me, you need evidence.”

“Have you been training people for Joseph?” Cora asked.

“Are you suspecting Joseph now? Do you have any evidence? Cora, stop suspecting everyone without proof. I’ll make one thing clear, though. If Joseph really did it, I’ll stand firmly on his side no matter what,” responded Yelena.

Cora ended the call. The more she thought about it, the more convinced she became that Joseph was behind the attack. First, it had been that mother and daughter. Now, it was Jayden. He was clearly targeting everyone helping

her.

Belinda had switched sides again, while Lexi had been frightened badly enough that she didn’t dare to enter Jenton. Most of the other families were wary of the Zahn family and didn’t dare to openly support Cora either.

Cora could only turn to Peyton for help. Peyton exclaimed, “What did you just say? Does Joseph really have people working for him?”

Peyton was stunned by what Cora told her. She could no longer sit still. She knew what Joseph was capable of. He could save lives, but when it came to hurting people, he never hesitated.

The fact that the latest attack had injured people without anyone getting killed was also consistent with what Peyton knew about Joseph.

Looking at Cora now, Peyton noticed that the calm confidence Cora had once carried was gone. There was a hint of desperation about her. For a moment, Peyton couldn’t help wondering whether abandoning Joseph and choosing to stand with Cora back then had been the wrong decision.

Cora said, “I suspect Joseph is still in Jenton. He’s hiding because it gives him the freedom to cause trouble, not because he actually became a monk. I want you to send more people into Jenton. We need to find him.”

Peyton refused. “No, I can’t listen to you. You and Jayden have already been attacked. If it truly was Joseph, who knows how many people he has working for him? If I send even more people into Jenton and openly go against him, I’ll just be giving him more opportunities to take me out.”

Peyton got up and looked out the window. She added, “Maybe he already knows you came to see me. If that’s the

case, I’ll be his next target.”

cora frowned. “Are you saying that he’s watching my every move?”

Peyton replied, “Of course. Do you really think he became a monk? The last time he showed up was when he treated your mother, right? How else could he have arrived so quickly? He could be hiding somewhere nearby this whole time.
