Chapter 684
Joseph agreed, “T’ll do my best.”
After Cora and Joseph finished their meal, she brought up the surrogate matter again. The women from Maroon Mansion were already prepared, and she urged him to seize the opportunity.
Joseph didn’t refuse outright. Instead, he told her to wait for his signal. When he returned, he didn’t hide what his meeting with her had been about. He told Yara that Cora was still searching for him, and that he intended to find him so that he could treat Yara’s condition.
Yara didn’t suspect anything. Instead, she assumed Joseph was cooperating with Cora for her sake, and she was extremely touched.
Joseph stayed in the villa, waiting for the right opportunity while keeping an eye on everything happening outside. He knew he would only have a chance to make his move when things became chaotic.
Joseph suddenly struck, catching the Dixon family completely off guard. After that, things on Cora’s side became quiet. The same went for the Zahn family. It was clear that someone was operating from the shadows.
Two days later, one of Joseph’s people from the Lowell family brought him some news. Bernard had been discharged from the hospital and had presided over a Lowell Group board meeting, temporarily ending the family’s power struggle.
At the same time, Bernard had met with the representatives of the Zahn family. The two sides had agreed to pin all the recent incidents in Jenton on Joseph.
Cora hadn’t said anything publicly, which clearly meant she approved of Bernard’s actions. Now, she was waiting to see how Joseph would respond. Ideally, they wanted to force him into a corner until he had no choice but to show himself.
Joseph thought, “Are they trying to frame me and make it impossible for me to survive in Jenton? That’s vicious.”
Joseph figured out their plan. It only strengthened his resolve to stay hidden. Instead, he instructed everyone working for him to be even more careful.
That day, Yara also told Joseph about the Zahn family’s decision regarding him. They intended to find him and force him to confess to all the crimes they had pinned on him before executing him.
With concern on her face, Yara asked, “The Zahn family has basically sentenced Joseph to death. Do you think he’ll still be willing to save me?”
Joseph deliberately let out a sigh. “The family’s decision is one thing, but if we find Joseph first and keep it from the family, we can have him treat you before they find out.”
Yara replied, “That would go against the family’s orders. The risk would be enormous.”
“I’ll take the risk. As long as you can get better, I’m willing to do anything. After everything you’ve done for me, I have to repay you somehow,” said Joseph.
Yara was taken aback. “Henry, you really are so good to me. Kiss me.”
Touched by Joseph’s words, Yara asked him to kiss her before melting into his arms.
That night, after Yara and Beth had both gone to sleep, Joseph restored his original voice and gave Bernard a call. As soon as the call connected, he said, “Dad, I’ve never had any grudge against you, either in the past or recently.

If anything, I’ve actually done you a favor. If I hadn’t made you cough up all that blood, you would be dead by now.
why are you repaying my kindness by framing me?”
Bernard snapped, “I can’t believe you have the nerve to call me, you ungrateful bastard! Listen carefully. You set fire to my company and Maroon Mansion. You even ambushed Jayden and committed countless other offenses. The list goes on and on.
“How am I framing you? If you think you’ve been wronged, stop hiding and come out here to explain yourself!”
Joseph changed his tone. “I addressed you as Dad because I thought you might still have some affection for the past. However, you’ve called me an ungrateful bastard. I guess I was the only one who believed there was still good relationship between us.
“Bernard, if you’re going to throw loyalty and decency out the window, let’s settle our old scores. Let’s start with the first one. Now that you know those three girls are your biological granddaughters, are you still going to deny that Cora cheated on me and betrayed me?”
