Chapter 687

at night, after Yara had fallen asleep, Joseph prepared to leave. However, Beth stopped him at the door,

“Mr. Jebb, Ms. Zahn told me not to let you leave. I…” Beth muttered.

“I have something important to take care of. Don’t tell Yara. Just like what happened between us, don’t tell anyone else either,” instructed Joseph.

Joseph stepped closer, and Beth stood her ground instead of backing away. Joseph said, “If I’m doing well, you’ll be fine too. In the end, everyone benefits. Do you understand?”

“I understand. How long will you be gone? I’m worried Ms. Zahn might wake up,” replied Beth. She reached out to touch Joseph, wanting to satisfy her craving first.

“I’m just going out for a late-night meal with a friend. I’ll be back soon. I’ll make sure I’m here by the time she wakes up. Don’t worry,” responded Joseph.

Joseph was finally able to leave. He quickly slipped out of the hospital and headed two streets away. He entered an unassuming house where Shane was being held. He gave Shane an acupuncture treatment and administered some medication. Before long, Shane regained consciousness.

“Henry, what the hell are you doing? Untie me!” Shane yelled. He realized he could barely move his hands and feet. Instantly, he sensed something amiss. When he saw Joseph’s cold expression, he felt fear for the first time.

Still, Shane refused to let himself appear intimidated.

Shane added, “You’ve been secretly hiding money. That’s a serious offense against Mr. Zahn Senior. Let me go now, and I’ll put in a good word for you. Mr. Zahn Senior might continue to value you. Otherwise, you’ll be throwing away your entire future.”

“Mr. Zahn Senior values me?” Joseph asked.

Shane answered, “That’s right. Mr. Zahn Senior personally stripped you of your authority at the Traditional Medicine Center. From what I know about him, that’s actually a sign that he intends to give you greater responsibilities.

“As long as you don’t hold a grudge over this and continue showing loyalty to the Zahn family, he’ll bring you back and entrust you with important duties. So, don’t ruin your own future.”

“You talk too much. Answer whatever I ask,” snapped Joseph. He used another acupuncture needle while covering Shane’s mouth with a towel to stop him from shouting. The treatment caused Shane considerable pain, leaving him sweating and twitching.

After enduring the ordeal, Shane no longer had the energy to threaten Joseph. What frightened Shane even more was that Joseph’s expression hadn’t changed once he had walked through the door. His eyes remained just as cold and ruthless as before.

Shane was a ruthless man himself, but Joseph was even more ruthless. For most of his life, Shane had enjoyed a comfortable life beside Owen. Even the hardships of martial arts training had been nothing more than sweat and hard work. This situation was completely different.

Shane had killed people before, and it wasn’t more than once. Those experiences had made him harsher, but he had never endured prolonged physical suffering like this.

After holding out for a while, he finally felt his strength draining away. He struggled to catch his breath and was forced to admit that age was catching up with him.

“I want you to tell me the biggest secret of Emerald Mountain,” stated Joseph.

Shane asked, “What are you planning to do?”

Joseph snapped, “I told you. I ask the questions, and you answer them. You broke the rules. Now, I’m annoyed.

Joseph stuffed the towel back into Shane’s mouth. This time, instead of using the acupuncture treatment he had used earlier, he deliberately targeted a different pressure point.

Before long, Shane found himself laughing uncontrollably despite the discomfort. The bizarre ordeal reminded him of how he had once tormented others in the same way. He had never imagined that the tables would turn and he would be the one at someone else’s mercy.

“You’re seriously ruthless!” Shane shouted.
