Chapter 693
Joseph felt utterly disgusted. He’d only come out to clear his head, but somehow, he’d ended up feeling even
worse.
He didn’t give Anne a dime. It simply wasn’t worth it to him. She wanted ten million dollars? That was enough to hire ten highly capable people to build his own crew!
Besides, if he really wanted whatever Anne had, he had other ways to get it. He could just abduct her and force her to hand it over. And if she refused, he could simply destroy her. There was no way she wouldn’t fold.
But he didn’t do any of that. Instead, he merely gave a small chuckle and walked away.
Three days after Cheryl left, she sent Joseph a message. She said that the Dixon family had sent a team of eight people. They were already flying into Jenton, and their target was none other than him.
“Looks like I’ve got more work to do.”
Joseph knew Cora and the Dixons were losing their patience. After all, he had nothing holding him back. If he got sick of everything, he could simply drop off the grid entirely, spending his days reading a book and sipping tea.
But Cora and the Dixons had a massive corporation to run and their own arrogant pride to protect. If they didn’t want to become a laughingstock, they had to hunt Joseph down and make him pay.
“Cora, even after you smear my name and run to your lover right in front of me, you still refuse to divorce me? Do you really think I’m still someone you can walk all over?”
Joseph gave his men the green light.
First, key doctors from the Zahn medical sect, including those at the Traditional Medicine Center and Jenton University Hospital, were ambushed. Every single one of them had one leg broken.
Next were the corporate executives from the Lowell, Banks, Byers, and York families who had sided with Cora. They were harassed too.
Either their homes and cars were splashed with paint, or they were jumped on the streets and hit over the head. None of the attacks were deadly, but it was enough to make their lives miserable.
As for the men the Dixon family had sent? They were attacked right in their hotel. Every single one of them had their arms and legs broken, ending up just like Jayden.
Emerald Mountain was hit again too. The dozen or so men guarding the entrance were wiped out, leaving the Zahn family too scared to come out.
To top it off, a driverless electric car plowed straight toward the Zahn family patriarch’s house. Even though the barricades stopped it, the battery exploded, delivering a brutal slap in the face to the Zahn family.
Joseph’s retaliation left Cora and the others furious but also deeply afraid.
When Yara heard what was happening, she shook like a leaf. Cold sweat dripped down her forehead and back. She buried herself in Joseph’s arms, clinging to him for dear life.
Joseph put on a show of concern. “What’s wrong? Are you feeling sick? We should go back to the hospital and get you checked out again.”
Yara answered, “It’s not my health that’s the problem. It’s Joseph. He’s gone mad and is attacking anyone who has crossed him, including his own family. He’s absolutely ruthless! Rather than treating me, he’ll only destroy me.”

Joseph asked internally, “Scared now, are you? Where was this fear when you drugged me to keep me from having children because you wanted to give the Zahn family pure-blooded descendants?
“Or when you knocked me out with drugs so Skylar could screw Cora? Maybe they even did it right beside me while I was unconscious.
“Funny how you never thought karma would catch up with you. Unfortunately, it’s too late to be scared now… Joseph felt nothing but disgust for her, but on the outside, he remained gentle. He kissed her on the forehead and murmured, “Don’t worry, I’ll protect you. If Joseph wants to hurt you, he’ll have to do it over my dead body.”
“Thank you, Henry. I feel safe when I’m with you. Thank you, truly,” Yara said, feeling deeply moved. She hugged Joseph even tighter, wishing she could become part of him and never leave his side.
Joseph was sharing this tender moment with her when Beth walked in with a phone. It was a call from the Zahn medical sect.
