Chapter 695
After the visit, Helen didn’t linger and left the hospital.
It wasn’t long before Cora called Joseph, cutting straight to the chase. “Dr. Jebb, did my mom get to see Skylar?!”
“She did. She just left, actually. Jeez, she even cried. She was really broken up about it, kept saying she hopes he recovers soon. Since you guys have fully accepted him into the family now, Ms. Lowell, maybe I should start calling you sister-in-law,” Joseph teased.
“Henry, don’t play games with me. You can’t afford to,” Cora warned from the other end.
“I’m currently one of the nine most powerful people in the medical sect. I can mobilize any of our forces outside of Emerald Mountain whenever I want. Do you really think I can’t afford to make a harmless joke, Ms. Lowell?
“And you, on the other hand, seem to have been having a rough time lately. When one side goes down, the other naturally goes up, doesn’t it?”
“Oh, well, I’m sorry, Dr. Jebb. I take back what I just said. I’ll treat you to a meal sometime as an apology. But don’t let my mom visit Skylar again. That’s all I wanted to say.”
Cora hung up, prompting Joseph to smirk. Cora sure was quick to adapt. Now that he had more power, she changed her tune and gave in.
A little while later, Fiona came in. She first thanked Joseph for returning to his position, then asked him to
examine her.
Rather than take advantage of Fiona, he asked an experienced female specialist to examine her, which confirmed it was breast cancer.
Joseph suggested that Fiona get surgery as soon as possible at a major hospital in one of the bigger cities. “You really shouldn’t drag this out. It hasn’t metastasized yet, so they just need to cut out the tumor.
“If you wait and it spreads, it’ll be a whole different story to treat. Plus, the Lowell family’s finances aren’t looking too hot right now. While Cora still has money, you should take advantage of whatever medical benefits she can provide. Just get the best medication available without worrying about the cost.”
Fiona knew he was right, but she still wanted to wait for a certain someone to show up. She still believed he would step in and treat her.
Fiona thanked him before leaving.
Then she did something Joseph found both unexpected and completely understandable. She went straight to Katie’s clinic, dropped to her knees with a thud, and begged Katie to take pity on her and get in touch with him.
It was funny how people would only swallow their pride when they were staring death in the face.
Joseph wasn’t in a rush to reveal himself. After all, Fiona wasn’t going to drop dead anytime soon. Besides, he wasn’t the only doctor in the world who could save her.
He also had other things to deal with, such as signing off on critical condition notices for Bruce and the others.
He headed over to Jenton University Hospital and made sure to let Cora know.
Cora just told him to do his best. She didn’t say much else, and she did not make a trip to the hospital either.
Joseph thought, “So, once a man has nothing left to offer you, he’s no longer worth anything to you.”

Then he made arrangements to save Marlin, who had been hospitalized after being poisoned.
ra had reached her limit with the Lowell family, particularly Marlin. With them constantly pressuring her, she no longer felt any need to protect their family ties.
And to make it easier to frame Joseph, she had used the exact same poison that had been used on Jonas and the others.
