Chapter 698
ra said, “Dad, stay out of this. Just focus on your health. I’ll make sure you get more than enough out of this: And as long as I’m here, you’ll be set for life.”
“Y-You can’t do this.”
Bernard suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest. He could barely get another word out before collapsing to the floor.
Helen and Cora were horrified and immediately called an ambulance. Cora left Joseph a voicemail, then called Katie and Yelena, urging them to contact him right away.
She was sure that if something happened to Bernard, Joseph would regret it for the rest of his life.
Joseph soon got word of the situation. At the same time, the Zahn family ordered him to station enough people at Jenton University Hospital to lie in wait for him to make an appearance to help Bernard so that they could finally capture him.
They even suggested that he arrange a minor medical mishap, within reasonable limits, to worsen Bernard’s condition. That way, Joseph would be much more likely to show up.
“Damn, these people were absolutely evil!” Joseph mused.
Despite everything, Joseph was genuinely shocked by Bernard’s sudden medical emergency. He headed to Jenton University Hospital, sneaking in through the internal staff corridors to avoid Cora and Helen.
He got his hands on the initial medical reports and examined Bernard himself.
Then, he had a trusted doctor shoo away the Zahn medical sect’s people and clear the area for a few minutes. Soon, Joseph got to work, stabilizing Bernard’s condition with incredible speed.
However, to buy himself more time and room to maneuver, he didn’t wake Bernard up immediately.
Instead, he went through the motions of organizing a consultation with a team of specialists, deliberately avoiding emergency surgery and opting for conservative treatment instead.
Cora and the others were a nervous wreck. With no sign of Joseph, Cora’s hopes grew dimmer and dimmer, and her resentment toward him grew stronger.
She refused to go home, staying behind to keep watch through the night. Suddenly, she got a message from Joseph, so she went to her car and called him.
Cora questioned, “Where are you? Just show yourself already! How can you still play hide-and-seek with me at a time like this? Is this really necessary? If anything happens to my dad, I will never forgive you, and I’ll hate you for the rest of my life!”
Joseph replied, “Stop trying to guilt-trip me, Cora. Do you think I actually need your forgiveness? And did you really think I’d forgive you after all those things you did to me? Do you seriously believe I would be afraid of you hating me?”
“You… Can we just stop fighting for now? Just save my dad first. Once he’s discharged, we can deal with our own problems afterward. Okay?”
Joseph tried to keep his emotions in check. “I’ve already treated your dad and helped him through the heart attack. The doctors at the hospital can handle the rest, so there’s no need for me to step in.”
Cora was stunned. “Wait, you were at the hospital?”

“What did you expect? That hospital is crawling with Zahn family people right now. They’d love nothing more than to see the Lowells spiral further into chaos.
“Cora, I don’t care whether you and the Zahn family are putting on an act or whatever. Just sign the divorce papers so we can go our separate ways and have nothing to do with each other anymore.”
“Honey, can you please stop pressuring me? Do you really have to kick me while I’m already down?”
Joseph let out a sigh. “Once Bernard stabilizes tomorrow, move him to Dolly’s sanatorium. It’ll be easier for me to get in and out of there.”
“Will you actually show up?”
