A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 699

Chapter 699

Meanwhile, Joseph had Reuben and Luke’s conditions take a turn for the worse, then gathered the medical sect’s doctors for a joint consultation. That successfully shifted everyone’s attention away from Bernard.

The next day, Bernard woke up and felt much better. The doctors checked him out and said he was out of the woods, though he needed plenty of rest. Cora seized the chance to move him to Dolly’s sanatorium.

Everything was going exactly as Joseph planned.

Helen was visiting Bernard at the sanatorium with the children when Cora received a message from Joseph.

Although she frowned at it, she understood the message loud and clear and left the sanatorium.

She rushed home and found Joseph sitting right there in the living room. Her emotions were a mess. She wanted to scold him and even hit him.

But instead, her nose just tingled, and the tears started falling. She threw herself at him. When he pushed her away, she threw herself at him again.

“Honey, what do I have to say to make you believe me? I never betrayed you! I never slept with another man. I swear I didn’t!”

“Why are we still talking about this? I came back so we could clear the air and get this divorce over with.”

“Fine, we can get a divorce. But you have to sleep with me one last time. As soon as we’re done, we’ll go straight to the courthouse and get divorced. And if I change my mind, I’ll eat my hat!!!

With that, Cora kissed Joseph. Before Joseph could recover from his shock, she stuck her tongue in, instantly tearing down his walls.

Joseph had been holding himself back for quite some time. After all, he was a middle-aged man, and as a doctor who knew how to take care of his health, he was well aware that he had physical needs.

Ever since the whole thing with Grace, he’d lost all interest in women other than Cora. His rule was simple. If he couldn’t give a woman the future she deserved, he wouldn’t sleep with her. He refused to lead them on and let them down. If there was no endgame, then there was no point in doing it.

But this was Cora. His actual, legal wife. Thus, he didn’t hold back. Plus, the whole “one last time” angle suddenly stirred up some complicated emotions in him.

He wanted to give her back all the love and desire he’d held onto over the years, and then they could make a clean break. And so, they slept together.

The day seemed both long and strangely fleeting. Cora had originally planned to come clean about everything, but after repeatedly losing herself in pleasure, she changed her mind, deciding to keep her mouth shut.

She believed that as long as he didn’t know and she didn’t bring it up, then it never happened. 1

With that logic driving her, she threw all her worries to the wind and just enjoyed herself. She even texted Helen, telling her not to interrupt them when she got back. That night, she made sure Joseph stayed.

In the early hours of the morning, Joseph wanted to leave, but even in her deep sleep, Cora kept clinging to him like a koala. As such, he used his medical know-how to make her sleep even more deeply.

But just as he stepped out into the living room; he heard a soft cough. Helen had been waiting for him. She motioned for him to follow her into her bedroom to talk.
