Chapter 703

Joseph turned a deaf ear to Natalie’s complaints and permitted her to visit Skylar.

Since he had decided to let the past stay in the past, he allowed her to do as she pleased. Skylar was in really bad shape, though.

He moved his mouth as though he wanted to say something, but only garbled groans came out. Natalie cried for ages, but in the end, she got nothing out of him. She left feeling utterly frustrated.

Not in the mood to work, Joseph headed back to Emerald Mountain to keep Yara company. When he arrived at Yara’s place, he happened to see a slender woman in her 50s leaving.

After asking about her, he was surprised to learn that she was Harry’s wife.

“So that old fossil told me to my face that he likes thick women, yet his wife is this skinny. Was he playing me? Heh, so much for trust.”

Joseph was a bit speechless, but he didn’t dwell on it.

He went over to Yara and showed her some affection. After all, action spoke louder than any lie. They then had dinner together.

Since he couldn’t get clearance to move around freely and approaching Owen without a reason was out of the question, he was mostly confined to Yara’s place.

He pretended to be concerned about Yara, and she was so touched that she ended up spilling some details about Cora registering her new company. Hearing that confused Joseph a little. Why hadn’t Cora cleaned house and gotten rid of Yara’s informant? Or had she simply failed to find them?

Two days later, news broke that Cora was splitting from the Lowells, sending the Lowell Group’s stock into a tailspin.

Cora took her money with her and injected it straight into her newly formed Hart Group.

Now that she had branched out on her own, she tore up her agreements with the Lowells. She poached over half their workforce and took most of their business with her, practically gutting Lowell Group.

After Marlin and the others had lashed out and hurled insults at her, she was completely done with the Lowells. Not a single penny that belonged to her was going to be left behind for them.

It wasn’t time to recalculate the annual wealth rankings yet. However, with Cora holding a controlling stake in Hart Group, she would undoubtedly still be the richest person in Jenton unless something unexpected happened.

Or rather, she and Joseph would share the top spot as husband and wife.

Hart Group, eh?

Joseph looked over the group’s information. Cora held an 80% controlling stake, while Helen’s family had chipped in for a 15% share, and the remaining 5% was split between Belinda and a few other investors.

According to the corporate structure, Joseph was the chairman. But since he hadn’t shown up to take the position, Cora was stepping in to exercise those powers on his behalf.

“Cora, you’re just moving money from your left pocket to your right. What’s the point? Back then, you wouldn’t let me have anything to do with your company because you were afraid I’d discover your secret with Skylar, weren’t you?

“Don’t you think pulling a stunt like this now is a little too late? You’re only trying to backtrack because I caught you. You really think things can go back to the way they were?

Joseph had no particular comment on what Cora was doing. “The Lowell family is probably falling apart right now. Surely no one can call me a kept man living off the Lowells anymore.”

He thought back to what Helen had said, something about how the wealth built over generations couldn’t be shaken by his ten years of hard work. What she didn’t realize was that even a massive dam could be destroyed by a tiny colony of ants, and that he was like those ants.

Yelena called all of a sudden. When Joseph picked up, she immediately started asking him about Hart Group. Apparently, Cora had been trying to convince her to invest and help grow the company together.

Joseph mused, “So that’s how Belinda got suckered in.”
