Chapter 705

Joseph didn’t turn down the gift, but he didn’t agree to Cora’s proposal either. He simply left for now.
Instead of going back to Emerald Mountain, he headed to the Traditional Medicine Center and straight to Skylar’s room. As luck would have it, he ran into Harry, who was walking out with three senior specialists from the medical sect.
Harry stopped Joseph and asked him to join the consultation, where they discussed how to treat Skylar, Reuben, and the others. During the discussion, Harry dropped a surprising piece of intel. Apparently, the Zahn family was planning to fly Skylar and the others overseas for treatment.
Owen had deep ties with an overseas medical institution, and they were willing to treat the Zahn family’s patients.
Although the Zahn medical sect believed that Owen was playing favorites, the fact that they couldn’t treat Reuben and the others themselves was undeniable. So they had no choice but to cooperate.
Of course, this was also a great opportunity for medical exchange. The medical sect planned to send some promising young talents along to assist with the treatment and learn advanced medical techniques there.
The spots would technically be decided through an assessment. But in reality, it would basically come down to Jenna and one or two others.
During the consultation, Joseph offered no useful suggestions and simply went through the motions. Afterward, Harry pulled him aside and said in a low voice, “Let this old timer give you some advice.
“You’ve been climbing up the ranks a little too fast. It makes us old guys feel like we’re actually past our prime. It just seems like the younger generation is taking over and that our time to be left behind has come.”
Joseph said with a smile, “Sir, I know good advice when I hear it. I’ll definitely take what you said to heart. So how do you suggest I cool things down?”
He mused, “The second you outlive your usefulness to me, I’m going to destroy every single one of you!”
“Our Miracle Doctor recommended you and wants to take you overseas with her. But I want you to voluntarily give up your spot and recommend my student, Joel Zahn, instead. Don’t worry. I’ll make it worth your while once it’s done.”
“No problem. I’ll just say Yara isn’t feeling well, so I’ll have to skip the trip and stay behind to take care of her.”
Joseph would have to explain this to Jenna later, though. If that woman got pissed off, there was no telling if she’d sell him out.
After they finished talking, Joseph went back to Skylar’s room. He watched Skylar lying there unconscious, barely clinging to life, and muttered, “Are you still any use to me?”
As Joseph stared at the oxygen tube beside the bed, he suppressed the urge to rip it out himself. But then he had a different idea. He could get Yara to do it.
The problem was, Yara would never go along with it if he suggested it now. The only way she might do it was if he slept with her and made her even more devoted to him.
With the promise of giving Skylar some relief, along with the lure of personal gain, there was a high chance Yara would actually pull the plug. Or maybe Yara would pass the buck and beg him to do it instead. If it came to that, he wouldn’t hesitate.
But before that, he needed to make sure the medical sect concluded that sending Skylar overseas for treatment

guess I’ll have to throw the Croma faction under the bus again…”
After leaving the ward, Joseph contacted Yasmin. He blackmailed her and demanded she hand over one of her people.
Joseph had something on Yasmin, so she had no choice but to comply with his unreasonable demand. After hanging up, she went to Lacey, got her drunk, pretended Lacey was Joseph, and slapped her across the face twice.
Joseph set his plan into motion. Over the next three days, whenever he had free time, he spent it with Yara.
