Chapter 706
Skylar can’t get on a plane in his current condition. Being that high up could make his condition even more unstable, and he could have an emergency at any time.
“Sure, we could handle it if it were a short one-or-two-hour flight. But a ten-plus-hour flight to Norénia? There are just too many things that could go wrong,” Joseph said, effectively crushing Yara’s hopes of sending Skylar
abroad.
“How did things get this bad?” Yara asked, wracked with worry.
“Everyone in our medical sect has done everything we can, but we’re only human. I’ve already reached out to the Gould family and had them spread the word. Hopefully Joseph will hear about it. If he shows up, there might still be a chance.”
“Joseph? How much hope is there, really?”
“Not much, but it’s better than nothing. If Joseph wants money, we’ll pay. If he wants something else, we’ll give it to him if we can. And if we can’t, we won’t be able to force it,” Joseph said calmly.
Having calmed Yara down, Joseph went back to organizing the medical team, putting on another show of doing everything he could.
Later, Joseph got a call from Cora. She got straight to the point. “Isn’t this the perfect opportunity? Don’t let it slip by!”
“It’s not. Keep your people out of this, or you’ll be the one taking the fall! Just let nature take its course.”
Joseph knew Cora was desperate for Skylar to die so there would be no one left to contradict her. Then she could refute Joseph’s claims and manufacture a reason to refuse the divorce.
Joseph couldn’t follow Cora’s orders to execute Skylar right now. If Cora turned around and framed him in front of Yara, and Yara decided to “do the right thing” and turn him in, he’d be screwed. His current identity still had its
uses.
He brought in even more people from the medical sect, making sure Cora couldn’t send her own spies in to sabotage things.
For the next two days, he made a big show of trying to save Skylar, but it was all smoke and mirrors. Meanwhile, Yara recovered enough to be discharged. She didn’t go back to Emerald Mountain, opting to stay at her villa instead.
That evening, Joseph knocked Beth out with a drug before making his entrance. He walked into the room and, right in front of Yara, collapsed onto the carpet.
“Henry, what’s wrong?” Yara exclaimed in shock.
Her phone wasn’t within reach, and she was stuck on the couch. She would have to roll off and crawl to the other room to get it.
Before long, she started feeling dizzy and lightheaded, and then she blacked out.
When she woke up again, she was on the bed. And sitting beside the bed was a bald man she knew all too well and feared more than anything-Joseph.
“W-When did you get here?” Yara wanted to scream, but a realization suddenly dawned on her. If Joseph was here, that must mean he had drugged Henry and Beth. Once again, her life was entirely in his hands now.

“Doesn’t this situation seem familiar? This is what you did to me for over a decade, isn’t it? You’d drug me to knock me out, and then you’d do whatever the hell you wanted,” Joseph said calmly, his voice icy.
Yara drew in a sharp breath. She had no way to refute him. She stared at Joseph, terrified of what he might do to her.
Joseph walked over, yanked her toward him, and started tearing at her clothes. “Skylar slept with my wife, so I’m- going to sleep with the women in his life. And I’m not stopping at his girlfriend, either. You’re his little sister, which makes you a prime target.”
“Joseph, you’re an animal! I hope you die a miserable death!” Yara yelled, panicking.
“That unconscious ugly freak outside is your fiance, right? I bet doing it right in front of him would really get your juices flowing.”
“I-I’ll bite my tongue off and kill myself, I swear! And when I do, you won’t be able to wash your hands of this!”
